While organized labor has generally supported the Democratic Party, it has only been within the last decade, with the election of John Sweeney as President of the AFL-CIO in 1995, that it has taken a decidedly leftward tilt. The 9/11 Commission's report avoided the most important question surrounding the attacks — their cause. Many of the politicos who profess to speak on behalf of minorities are actually quite removed from the people whose interests they claim to represent. Whatever the cause, Democrats are faced with this embarrassing fact: John Kerry received little or none of the projected post-convention bounce and even lost ground, according to one poll. |
