[...] The history of the nationalist Right since the Cold War shows that a prominent strain of it has surprisingly little faith in its own side. The “long twilight struggle” people during the Cold War believed that the West was too weak, too decadent, that the triumph of the cold hard legions of Communism was, alas, inevitable. Their Bible was Jean-Francois Revel’s How Democracies Perish, but Revel’s book merely crystallized ideas that were commonplace throughout the gloomier quarters of the Right. The West achieved its final victory over the Soviet’s before How Democracies Perish had time to be remaindered. The gloomy Right was wrong then and they’re wrong now. [...]

Bin Laden despised Saddam and his secular regime, he is on videotape saying how he was fully committed to its downfall. Bush's invasion of Iraq was the best present he could have possibly given Osama Bin Laden.

Are you guys ultra-morons or what?

The very basis of Revels concept is that WE are the masters of our destiny. We make our country what it is. This has been shown in the latest voting. But the great numbers of people who are lethargic, waiting for someone else to do their work for them or hoping all will come out ok, are deluding themselves.I get called a "political nut" because I earnestly voice my opinion based on facts I have read or been shown. The two most important aspects of our lives: where we will end up and what will be our and our childrens future, are taboo. Never discuss politics or religion.I don't understand why this wouldn't be the only things that really matter in our lives. Not American Idol, what actress is with whom and what the Desperate Housewives are doing!!!!!!!!!

I was introduced to Jean-François Revel's work by my history professor some 25 years ago. He was a fascinating read, and truly one of the 20th century's under recognized political minds. He deserves more attention. As true genius is often not recognized in its own time, perhaps now that he has passed on, he will get the recognition he deserves.

Not to long ago a blogger named Patrick was so proud of this statement, which admittedly, I could not defend. He stated that" Only liberalism grows in America." Conservatives simply slow the growth. Our greatest opportunity to bring conservatism to the forefront of America has slipped away with our socially liberal President Bush, and true conservatives see little sign of hope. With one more justice on the Supreme Court, Conservatives may finally see some light at the end of the tunnel. We would then be able to block many of the unconstitutional laws liberlism is based on. With the mid-terms looking bleak, conservatives will look back on the second term of GW as our greatest failure to socially and financially protect America.
