		<description>I am every bit as enthusiastic as you re: a Thompson candidacy (and Presidency!), but I seriously question whether it would &quot;unite the whole leadership of the Republican Party&quot;.  First and foremost, they care only for getting elected, not for fidelity to core conservative values.  I can easily imagine them calculating that a Guiliani ticket would win far more &quot;moderate&quot; and &quot;independent&quot; voters than it would lose in social conservative voters.... and those votes are taken for granted anyhow.  &quot;What&#039;re they gonna do, vote for Hillary? Stay home?  So what?&quot;  I ardently hope to see Mr. Thompson get out on the stump and demonstrate vividly and irrefutably that he has the message- and is the messenger- that Americans will respond to, as they did to Reagan.</description>
