The immigration battle brought into daylight the giant axis of amnesty and national-dissolution, whose agents had previously seemed detached, even antagonistic to each other. As one blogger asked, When was the last time Congress worked so hard to pass legislation that so few supported and whose opponents hated it so badly?
Part 3 – When 535 foxes raid the pantry
Two weeks have passed since we wrote about the worst Senate bill in memory, and the crafty fox mentality of the elites that could have thought up such a bill. Since then, SB 1348 would become SB 1639. It would progress through one vote of procedural approval, and then die on the second vote. And until outraged citizens rose en masse, and tied the trembling hands of U.S. Senators to the sanity stake, and then pushed those hands to pierce the ghoul, the new undead had been the same old zombie with some rouge and mascara touch ups.
On the day when the Iranian military crossed into Iraq to attack British troops; and more of our best soldiers died to bring democracy to pre-democracy tribals; and evidence once again confirmed that China is using its $1.3 trillion trade surplus to build up an aggressive military capability; and unfaked data, M3 money supply, showed U.S. inflation growing at 12% annually, the White House was seemingly at its busiest ever, handing out migra amnesty IOUs or twisting arms in the Senate's corridors, and Republican architects of SB 1348/1639 were busy adding meaningless curlicues to the script of treason, such as 'touchback' provisions. The minor inconvenience of massive public protests, evisceration by media pundits, and disclosures of embedded fraud had not swayed the bi-partisan Beltway fox party from the course it had plotted out for its 300 million subjects, soon to be 400 million.
Bloggers asked: When was the last time Congress worked so hard to pass legislation that so few supported and whose opponents hated it so badly? [Captain Ed], or drew the lines of battle: The People vs. the Powerful! [Mickey Kaus]. Senators Trent Lott and Diane Feinstein, one a "conservative" Republican and the other a liberal Democrat, appeared on a Fox News Sunday that the columnist David Limbaugh characterized as a love fest in which the Senators were busy congratulating themselves over their collegiality. He adds:
Both Senators argued, typically, that any action on the immigration bill is better than none. Sadly, career politicians of both parties too often believe America's continued greatness depends on their proactive, energetic governance and superior knowledge and moral judgment. When politicians behave as though they believe governance is about them rather than representing the competing interests of people with largely different worldviews, something is way out of kilter.
Who are these vendors of banal venality posing in Senate under Democrat and GOP greasepaint? We will consider briefly the dissimilar cases of four of the main Friends-of-1348/1639: Senators Kennedy, McCain, Reid and Lott.
Senator Chester Trent Lott, Sr. represents the US Chamber of Commerce in the U.S. Senate. In his spare time, he buys off with the U.S. taxpayers' money the Mississippians who are supposed to keep reelecting him in return. Mr. Lott resigned as Senate Republican Majority Leader under a firestorm of criticism in December 2002, after a faux pas comment related to racial segregation. It then came out that he had always actively supported racial segregation, including this 1984 exhortation to the Sons of Confederate Veterans in Biloxi, Miss.: The spirit of Jefferson Davis lives in the 1984 Republican platform. A great thing to say, too, for a leader of the party of Lincoln, though perhaps not out of character for an ex-president of Sigma Nu at Ole Miss.
When asked by a journalist in September 2006 whether the Iraq War had been discussed in a meeting between President Bush and Republican Senators, this key Senate leader responded, No, none of that. You're the only ones who obsess on that. We don't and the real people out in the real world don't for the most part. And then, Why do Sunnis kill Shiites? How do they tell the difference? They all look the same to me.
Which is scintillating, compared to what Mr. Lott had said one year earlier. For the distinguished Senator's two areas of active interest, unfortunately for his country, are pork and immigration. In 2005, boasting of his ability to pile on the pork, i.e. 'earmarks,' despite efforts by a few honest Republican Senators to curtail the practice, Lott said: The way I do it is, I fold them into bills where you can't find it . . . I've been around here long enough to know how to bury it.
True to type, in January 2007, Mr. Lott was one of seven Republicans who joined the Democrats' leader, Harry Reid, in an attempt to water down a set of new rules requiring lawmakers to disclose all the earmarks they insert into bills. Luckily, there were a few good men in the Senate, to stop this.
Consistent with his responsibilities to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Lott's other enthusiastic activity in the Senate is keeping uninterrupted the high flow of immigration by unskilled, semi-literate people from Third World countries. Complaining about the nuisance of having to hear a deluge of protests from American citizens, Mr. Lott said: I've had my phones jammed for three weeks. Yesterday I had three people answering them continuously all day. He dismissed the objectors by adding that they try to "intimidate" him, but they don't even know where Gulfport, Mississippi, is.
About which, Mark Steyn posted this entry, tagged, Vacant Lott, on the NRO Weblog:
I have no serious expectations of Senators these days, but I would like them at the very least to try and sound a little less like the plump complacent emirs of the one-party-state of Incumbistan. Trent Lott fails even that test.
Not deterred in the least, Mr. Lott fired a burst also at Talk Radio anti-amnesty pundits: Talk radio is running the country. We're going to have to deal with that problem.
While keen on the "problem" of the First Amendment, Senator Lott has no plan to deal with his country's loss of territorial sovereignty. Talking to reporters on June 20, 2007, he said:
If the answer is 'build a fence' I've got two goats on my place in Mississippi. There ain't no fence big enough, high enough, strong enough, that you can keep those goats in that fence.
To which, by way of government buildings behind walls and barricades, and gated communities where many a Senator makes his third home, and prisons and fortresses behind walls, and the very effective Israeli security wall, one can respond, Bull, bunkum and baloney.
One can be sympathetic to the voters of a small, flyover state like Mississippi for having put Trent Lott in the Senate. Nor is he worse than other representatives of the clueless, soi-disant "conservative" species like Lindsey Graham, Chuck Hagel, Ted Stevens, and Lincoln Chafee. What's different about Mr. Lott is that his party has deemed him fit to serve as its leader and public face in the U.S. Senate since 1995.
As soon as Senator Lott's racial "indiscretion" forced his reluctant stepping down from the Majority Leader position, his colleagues chose him for the powerful post of Chairman of the Senate Rules Committee. Not content with the public's disgust, evinced in the 2006 Congressional elections, in November 2006 Senate Republicans chose Mr. Lott to become their Whip for the 110th Congress. Which only motivates millions of voters like me who are inveterate foes of everything the Democratic Party stands for, to say, The pox on both your houses.
It may be unfair to lump Senator John McCain with the likes of Lott, Reid, and Kennedy. Mr. McCain is genuinely in a class all his own, because the damage of his leadership in several of the Senate's most nauseating initiatives has to be balanced against his demonstrated integrity, virtue, and heroism.
Yet, a Senator who bills himself "conservative" and who would co-generate any bill with Ted Kennedy, and then keep pushing aggressively for that bill, is, in my book, not a friend of the United States. And when that bill is the nation-destroying SB 1348/1639 Shamnesty, hatched in secrecy with 1,000 unread pages serving no reason but to swindle the American people with promises the nonfulfillment of which is built into the bill, it's serious.
When, of such a bill, Senator Mc Cain says, We all know this issue can be caught up in extracurricular politics unless we move forward as quickly as possible, he has lost me, for life. This, without even considering Hugh Hewitt's relative advice: Senator McCain's contempt for you is complete. React accordingly.
If it sounds bad, McCain-Feingold is hardly better. The McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Bill suppresses debate during an election campaign, and is partly the reason why, to borrow Mark Steyn's gem again, our electoral system is Incumbistan, and lunatics like George Soros can use their purse to make and unmake factions and politicians. That McCain-Feingold has increased the influence of money in politics, i.e. achieved the opposite of its intended affect, does not seem to register with the architect of this legislative malpractice.
Then there is McCain-Schumer, otherwise known as "Gang of 14." In this gambit, Mr. McCain followed the siren song of Chuck Schumer, a wily Left fox if there is one. By crossing party lines, Mr. McCain sabotaged the GOP with regard to its ability to confirm judges on an up and down vote. And selecting and confirming non-subversive judges is one of the few great services that the GOP renders to the American people and its Constitution.
At a unique time of the GOP's hold of the White House and both chambers of Congress, to have done what Mr. McCain did is akin to giving two of your four aces to your opponent in a game of poker, so that he won't complain so much. And this when the opponent has never shown reciprocal magnanimity.
To what can one attribute such gross errors of judgment in a man so accomplished? Such gross harm to his country, wrought by a man who demonstrably loves it and has paid a heavy personal price in its service?
It may have something to do with Senator McCain's fundamentally liberal concept of America. His standard collegiate campus speech includes a statement that America is a multicultural nation with a single shared value – liberty — and that this makes us stronger than any nation made from a common race or culture. Mr. McCain shares with President Bush also the special commitments to the war in Iraq and to the Mexicanization of the United States – a vision that critics have dubbed "Invade the World, Invite the World."
Mr. McCain seems to share also the President's lack of erudition, but it is doubtful that any brush-up on Edward Gibbon or Heather Mac Donald would cure him of his multicultural delusions. For it seems that the Bush-McCain similarity also includes the solipsism-inducing symptoms of a grandiose sense of self-importance, belief in one's special destiny, an excessive need for admiration, strong sense of entitlement, and arrogance. We, the voters, do not measure up to Mr. McCain's expectations. It is up to us to rise to his ideas of how to improve ourselves and our affairs, rather than for him to stoop to represent in the Senate what Arizona voters, in their temerity, think is right.
Among the Senators who share important Bush and McCain character traits, background of high patrician privilege, and enthusiasm for importing the Third World to America, none is more prominent than the Democrat driver of Shamnesty, Ted Kennedy. All three hereditary grandees are about as familiar with the catastrophic social, cultural, and fiscal effects of legal or illegal immigration by tens of millions of indigent, near-illiterate Mestizos dumped by the white Mexican Hispanic oligarchy on clueless gringos, as they are likely to have hung out on the corner of Hoover and Alvarado in L.A. at 3 a.m.
If you got a 2-year suspension for cheating on a final at Harvard; and as a soldier you did 2 years of combat duty in Paris while the Korean War was raging; and you got a suspended sentence for drunk driving and drowning a woman and failing to come to her rescue; and your first political office was that of U.S. Senator from Socialist International even though you were a very rich and idle heir from Hyannisport; and after 40 years of relentlessly sabotaging your country you ended up winning The 2003 George Bush Award for Excellence in Public Service and co-managing the country alongside the eponymous sponsor of the award, you have led a charmed life. And so has Edward Moore Kennedy.
We generally refrain from heavy disparagement of particular Democrats, or RINOs like Arlen Specter, who, no matter how smart and accomplished (e.g., Specter), are sick people, infected with the autoimmune virus of Liberalism. Arguments, let alone rational ones, are wasted on such green, foaming pods from Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the 1956 Don Siegel masterpiece, not the 1978 Nancytown remake). But Senator Kennedy, the founding father of the Congressional Dementia Caucus (CDC), merits an exception. His is such a spectacular case that we named a medical condition after him, known as Tedkennedyensis Suppurativa.
This debilitating affliction manifests as plugging of the common sense glands and elementary wisdom follicles, which leads to formation of passionate pinko pus, compassionate bolshie boils, and scarring of the brain. Disassociative dementia follows, leading to the patient's construction of an elaborate fantasy world, which substitutes in his mind for the real world. The condition is known in professional literature also as Realitas Inversa, and used to be known under the colloquialism 'fox-den disease,' though we prefer the term 'fox-dem disease.' Indeed, Mr. Kennedy is acknowledged as one of the craftiest Democrats in Congress. He is, also, by far, the architect of America's suicide-by-immigration.
As Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration and Naturalization, Ted Kennedy talked his colleagues into passing the 1965 Immigration Act by offering these assurances:
First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same . . . Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset . . . Contrary to the charges in some quarters, [this bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area . . . Thirdly, the bill will not permit the entry of subversive persons, criminals, illiterates or those with contagious disease . . . As I noted a moment ago, no immigrant visa will be issued to a person who is likely to become a public charge . . .
Reality check: In 1960, the top seven immigration origin countries were Italy, Germany, Canada, Great Britain, Poland, Soviet Union, and Mexico. By 2005, the top seven countries were Mexico, India, China, Philippines, Cuba, Vietnam, and Dominican Republic. These seven account for approximately 45% of legal immigration, at the rate of 1 million persons per year, to which one must add another 0.75–0.9 million illegal border-jumpers, 60% of whom are Mexican.
Mexicans alone, almost uniformly ignorant, low-IQ (89 mean), resistant to English and unskilled, account for one-third of all legal U.S. immigration; over 50% if one reckons with the illegals. Europeans, largely highly educated and skilled, account for approximately 10%, or 5%-6% if one factors in the illegal (and non-European) component. So much for "not upsetting the ethnic mix" of the United States.
As to Senator Kennedy's promise concerning the exclusion of subversives, criminals, illiterates, the contagious, and the welfare dependent, it suffices to say that a better man than him would have trouble looking at his face in the mirror. Relevant metrics are readily available, e.g. here and here, and they manifest daily in national and local news.
Refusing to have anything to do with reality, let alone showing contrition, in 1986 Senator Kennedy worked tirelessly to bring about the Simpson-Mazzoli Amnesty, about which various blogs credit him with the quote: This amnesty will give citizenship to only 1.1 to 1.3 million illegal aliens [actually, it was 3.3. million]. We will secure the borders henceforth. We will never again bring forward another amnesty bill like this (the quote is unverified, but this was the thrust of the bill, anyway).
Reality check: That amnesty at least quadrupled the number of illegal immigrants. Successive administrations failed to implement any but sham enforcement provisions.
Now we have another 12-20 million illegals, and Mr. Kennedy offered this exhortation to go with his 2007 Shamnesty: Now it is time for action. 2007 is the year we must fix our broken system. Just to make sure dissenters knew anathema and excommunication awaited them, he added, We hope that the voices of hatred and bigotry will silence themselves for this debate.
Although our own diagnosis of Tedkennedyensis Suppurativa posits merely a pathological variant of malignant narcissism, others have diagnosed paranoid schizophrenia. Dr. Ann Coulter, for instance, adduced Mr. Kennedy's destructive career as an angry, long-awaited payback to WASPs for their less-than-enthusiastic welcome of Irish immigrants in the 19th century. She infers that in 1965 Kennedy overhauled immigration law with the specific purpose of effecting a dramatic change in the nation's demographics. Instead of taking 15 immigrants from England and three from China, America would henceforth take three from England and 15 from China. Payback's a bitch, Daughters of the American Revolution! He would preside over a civil rights bill for the entire Third World!
Even Dr. Coulter doesn't do justice to the beauty of the scheme, for she forgot to add the 20 illegal Mexicans and Salvadorans to the mix of 15 legal Chinese and three Western Europeans; nor has she mentioned the six asylumed Somali Bantu, Sudanese Dinka and Afghan gays. And, to be exact, the 15 Chinese are only seven; the other eight are Sharia-loving Muslims or Haitian voodoo priests. Her theory is plausible, though, considering that papa Joe Kennedy was notorious for his Irish Catholic chauvinism, and had warm feelings for Hitler that led FDR to retire him from ambassadorship to Great Britain in 1940.
So now, in consequence of Senator Kennedy's untiring efforts over four decades, this is how our social landscape looks:
That cultural unity, that sense that we were one people, is gone. Today's immigrants exceed in number anything any nation has ever known. They now come from cultures and countries whose people have never before been assimilated by any First World country. Not only is the Melting Pot broken, it is rejected by our elites. Minorities are urged to hold onto their own language, customs, traditions. [T]he largest cohort, Mexicans, comes from a country with a historic grievance and a claim on the territory they are entering. Moreover, we have been fighting one another over issues of race and ethnicity, history, heroes and holidays.
– Patrick Buchanan, "Path to National Suicide," May 21, 2007
Due to the Kennedy-championed system of family-based immigration, Third World immigrants, who might have otherwise assimilated, have engendered chain immigration of extended families so large that entire villages in countries ranging from Albania to Yemen have emptied of their inhabitants in order to live in the U.S. on the compassionate charity of Senator Kennedy, dispensed with the U.S. taxpayers' dollars.
In 1975, a single Albanian, Murat Duka, immigrated to the United States. Starting in 1985, a stream of relatives began arriving in Brooklyn; many from the village of Debar, in Macedonia. Now there are 200 Dukas living in the Northeast. That includes the three Duka brothers arrested for plotting the jihadi attack on Fort Dix. We believe that Senator Kennedy, and other airhead oligarchs like him, ought to be charged with being an accessory to this plot.
Shamnesty, under pressure from GOP Senators, would have "reduced" to 74% the percentage of green cards going to family members, with a further reduction to 51% after eight years. Much too little, too late.
Too little, when Pablo Baltazar, who crossed the Rio Grande sometime in the 70s and was "legalized" in the 1986 amnesty, has wrought a demographic impact as large as this:
In the three decades since his crossing, all nine of his siblings followed, bringing spouses and children. The Baltazar clan, now too numerous to count, stretches from Eastern North Carolina, where its members started out working the fields, to Florida, Texas and Colorado. Chain migration has cleared out entire villages in Mexico. And it has turned areas of rural North Carolina into places where Spanish is the dominant language and "tiendas" replace country stores.
And too late, when the same news story describes the first U.S.-born Baltazar generation as follows: [Baltazar] wanted his children to get the education he never had, but all four of his sons dropped out of high school. One is drifting, looking for work. Another is imprisoned on drug charges.
The woes of the second Baltazar generation, and our woes, are the fault of Senator Kennedy and his useless colleagues. Mendacious Senate shills are never satisfied, though, unless they can pull the country down another notch. In a recent speech, Senator Menendez rejected the term "chain migration" as "dehumanizing." Mr. Kennedy's aides intimated during Shamnesty debates that no matter what the final bill states, the family-based chain immigration system shall remain intact.
As late as June 26, a week after Immigration Law Professor Kris Kobach published "The Senate Immigration Bill: A National Security Nightmare," and after a meticulous and much-quoted Robert Rector analysis had shown the $20,000–per-year damage to the U.S. economy by each "legalized" immigrant family, Mr. Kennedy called the Senate's progress toward voting on SB 1639 a major step forward for our national security, for our economy and for our humanity. And when Shamnesty was killed, the Senate's "Lion" burst into a long tirade, suggesting, among others, that the bill's opponents were planning to create a “Gestapo.” Few foes in the history of this country have damaged it as much as this American royalty has.
To complement this troika of hereditary oligarchs we offer the case of Senator Harry Reid – a true man of the people, son of a miner from a small Nevada town, and a pol in the grand tradition of poldom. Or, to repeat key Democratic Congressman John P. Murtha's answer when the ABSCAM "Arab potentate" impersonator offered him $50,000 in cash: Now, I won't say, you know, if you made me an offer, maybe I would change my mind some day. But that was after he said, All right. How much money we talking about?
As his website proclaims, Senator Reid's life is one that is built on values. Looking for evidence of those values we find that, as per a 2003 Los Angeles Times disclosure, Mr. Reid's sons and son-in-law have built major careers by lobbying his office. In 2002, Reid had introduced a bill that would provide vast benefits to Clark County real estate developers and to corporations that were paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in lobbying fees to the Reid sons' Nevada law firms. As relayed in Congresspedia, Howard Hughes Corp. paid Mr. Reid's son-in-law $300,000 in lobbying fees and received in return a provision allowing the company to acquire 998 acres of federal land for development in the exploding Las Vegas metropolitan area.
Senator Reid also did the bidding of the scum lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Mr. Reid has acknowledged receiving $61,000 from Abramoff's clients, and he repeatedly "collected donations" around the time of each action he took to help Abramoff's clients. He has steadfastly refused to return these "donations," claiming that Abramoff is "a Republican scandal."
From 2002 to 2006, Senator Reid often used his influence in the Senate to help his friend, Harvey Whittemore, obtain government land for development in Nevada. Mr. Reid pushed for the land rights to be given to Whittemore for free. As the project advanced, the nifty Senator received tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from Whittemore. As Congresspedia notes, The relationship between the two goes even deeper. Reid's son, Leif Reid, is Whittemore's personal lawyer and has represented the developer throughout the Coyote Springs project.
This is merely business as usual, and it doesn't merit much further discussion. Suffice to say that Congresspedia itemizes other values-laden activities of the U.S. Senate Majority Leader, such as the 1998-2004 Improper reporting of land deal, and a 2005 $18 million Earmark for a bridge near personal land.
Senator Reid has called President Bush "loser," Justice Clarence Thomas "embarrassment," Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan "partisan hack," and Marine General Peter Pace and Army General David Petraeus “incompetents.” Perhaps to underscore his own superior military insight, Mr. Reid also decreed the Iraq War "lost." All of which finally burst Dennis Miller's dam.
But give us a hard-nosed pol any day, rather than an errant knight from Camelot. For a pol, looking out for #1, inflicts damage that's containable. The true believer, though – and that is the case with the most ardent partisans of Shamnesty, like Bush, Kennedy, McCain, Feinstein — will sink the ship, with himself on deck, while denying that it's a ship, let alone that it's sinking. Which brings us to the profound question posed by the great Polish satirist, Stanisław Lec, If a man who cannot count finds a four-leaf clover, is he lucky?
As relayed by Dick Morris and Eileen McGann, [Congressmen] are paid at least $165,500 a year, and they hardly show up at all. In 2006, for example, Congress was only in session for 103 days, slightly more than two days a week on average. Nice work, if you can find it.
Congressmen, Morris and McGann write, spend their time raising money for themselves, bickering and passing bills to change the names of courthouses and post offices, commending winning sports teams, and suggesting that the flag be flown on Father's Day. The real problems, though, occur not when Congress is idle or frivolous, but when it's busy and serious. For when Congress does work, other than trivial bills it mostly produces vast boondoggles like the Senate's Shamnesty; or it enacts outrageous income transfer heists, or trillion-dollar unfunded liabilities, or wasteful pork appropriations, or unnecessary meddling in people's lives, or any combination thereof.
Meanwhile, major problems that remain ignored include World War 4 that a Congressional majority wishes to end as though the enemy were similarly inclined; the subset 28-year-long unilateral war waged on the U.S. by Iran; open borders and a massive invasion of the U.S. by Mexico; Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid on path to national bankruptcy; an eroded manufacturing base; the withering of America's exports; creeping socialism crippling both industry and justice; buccaneer capitalism; a falling dollar and the related $8.8 trillion national debt; the rise of antagonistic China and Russia to economic superpower status; energy import dependence; broken K-12 and college education templates, and much more.
The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and Labor, Honorable George Miller, Chairman, proudly proclaims on its website:
Democrats take Action on Key Education and Labor Initiatives
From working to make college more affordable with the single largest increase in college aid since the GI bill, to passing the first minimum wage increase in 10 years, Education and Labor Committee Members have been hard at work since January getting key measures passed in committee and the House to help grow and strengthen America’s middle class.
The deplorable waste of billions of U.S. taxpayers' dollars on "college aid" does little to "help strengthen America's middle class." For America hardly needs more empty-headed twentysomethings who have left high school not knowing simple multiplication or basic syntax, and who then spend their college years hooking up at keggers and taking courses like Queer Musicology (UCLA) or The Phallus (Occidental College). America needs people who can make a 45-degree mitre cut that's not 44.63 degrees, and precision lathe operators, and master cobblers – and all these occupations pay far more than the typical college grad numskull can expect to make post-college.
A peek at Congress's travel schedule is more interesting than reading the moronic pabulum dished out by our "hard at work" solons. The Honorable George Miller (D-CA), for instance, is "hard at work" in this manner, as per Morris, McGann:
Since 2000, [George Miller] and his wife have attended a total of 30 Aspen [Institute]conferences at a cost of more than $125,000, and total trips valued at over $200,000 — and only three of them were concerned with education. Mr. and Mrs. Miller traveled to Aspen conferences in:
Naples, Fla., San Juan, Vancouver, Prague, Grand Cayman, Florence, Helsinki, Punta Mita, Mexico (three times), Scottsdale, China, Barcelona (two times), Montego Bay, Jamaica, Rome, Moscow, Cancun, Venice, Dublin, Istanbul (two times), Honolulu, Krakow, and Llubjana.
In addition, Congressman Miller has traveled on government expense to:
Mexico, Cambodia (two times), Vietnam (two times), South Africa, France, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Laos, Egypt, Lebanon, Israel (two times), Jordan, Iraq, Italy (two times), Sudan (two times), Ghana, Liberia, and Cape Verde. (The records do not indicate whether his wife also joined him on these trips.)
The government trips consumed almost 75 days at a cost of over $65,000, excluding the airfares for military transport. And, Congressman Miller is not a member of any committee dealing with foreign relations. The Aspen trips took over 150 days! That's an average of almost 30 days each year!
Who has time to work with this kind of travel schedule?
But he's not alone.
It's not like the American people are blind and stupid. According to the latest Gallup Poll, only 14% of us have a lot of confidence in Congress. That's the lowest confidence rating since Gallup started measuring it in 1973.
The people have witnessed the spectacle of the GOP, the "party of fiscal restraint," robbing the country blind while it held the Congressional majority. On the GOP's watch, the $286.4 billion highway bill passed, and was signed into law by a "conservative" Republican President. The bill contained $24 billion in earmarks for 6,376 pork projects — all stuffed into a document 1,752 pages long that hadn't been made public until just before it was brought to a vote. In contrast with this most expensive public works legislation in U.S. history, Ronald Reagan had vetoed the 1987 highway bill because it included 121 earmarks and was $10 billion over the limit he had set.
And now the GOP is deservedly the minority party, and it's haranguing the Democratic majority for its determined effort to let no pork escape that can be tucked into the crevices of any bill. And President Bush calls on Congress to cut spending, after 6 years in which he hadn't vetoed a single Congressional outrage of profligacy – the biggest ones of which he had initiated himself. To paraphrase from P.J. O'Rourke's Parliament of Whores, the GOP burned Rome and fiddled. The Democrats are fiddling and feeding giant barrels of bacon to the remains' fire, while telling us they are building a new Rome. So it's no wonder that the people are finally reaching their retching threshold.
With a few exceptions of young, Republican backbench Congressmen – and Senator McCain, to give him his due when warranted — neither party has the slightest intention of doing anything about the fire. And it is roaring at a rate of nearly $3 trillion a year (federal budget, each year a new highest ever), a national debt of $8.8 trillion and growing, $59.1 trillion in unfunded U.S. liabilities, and the U.S. dollar on its way to international fishwrap status.
The people won the May-June 2007 battle for America's peoplehood, but the fox overclass may yet win the war. Already grandees of the Congressional Left, like Dianne Feinstein, Dick Durbin, and Maurice Hinchey ($200,000 worth of free international travel since 2000), have committed themselves to revive the "Fairness Doctrine," which would gut Talk Radio — the only mass medium not dominated by the Dissolve-America Left.
To begin with, nothing has been achieved with respect to securing America's borders – and nothing will be achieved other than by a massive civil insurrection or as a too-late national knee-jerk response to another, bigger-than-9/11 attack by embedded jihadis. For our governing elite is much less interested in improving national security than it is in abolishing the borders and turning America into a multicultural trading outpost of the global economy.
In Multicultica, racial utopia and the final punishment of whitey will have been attained for the sake of Liberal ecstasy. As well, Nirvana will have been attained for the GOP's corporate donors, enabling them to move populations at will to match profit expectations, while dumping on the taxpayers the horrific fiscal and social costs of such moves.
All the happy immigration talk emanating from Washington to the accompaniment of the violin section from New York, the banjo section from Texas, and the guitarróns of California's mariachi serves one purpose only: to mask the din of drills and jackhammers ripping the hinges off America's nationhood and the lid off its treasury. It's a shot at a historical first: a simultaneous orgasm by the America-hating Left, and the Golden Calf Right.
The Assyrians had a strategy of exiling conquered nations to each other's territories. That's how the ten tribes of Israel vanished from the pages of history. Our foxes in the national pantry pursue a strategy of inviting arrested-development peoples to America, and hoping – not to beat around the Bush – that the American white middle class will either find it so unbearable that it will exile itself, or at least shut up, or blend into the new, hybrid, Multicultican population and disappear. The wily courtier foxes pursue an overtly racist agenda, silencing their critics with shouts of Racism! They want to change America into what Mr. Bush has called "the new America."
Why do we need a new America? Funny you should ask. The socialist German playwright, Bertolt Brecht, wrote a poem, The Solution, to comment on yet another of East German government's brutal suppressions of serial worker's revolts in the mid-1950s. He wrote:
[T]he people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government
And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier
In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?
Now cowardice, stupidity, greed, dereliction of duty, and criminal wastefulness are by no means limited to the American governing elite. Even if we exempt from mention the perennial dysfunction and criminality of the elites in practically all Third World countries, Western-style democracies provide plenty of comparative material.
Japan, until 40 years ago perhaps the world's most beautiful country relative to its small size (4% of the U.S.), has been paved over for kickbacks and votes. If the U.S. has a Bridge-to-Nowhere, Japan has hundreds. It has 8-lane highways linking Nowhere and Not-there, stretched over flattened mountains where not long ago bears roamed among dense sequoias. It has thousands of deadened rivers channeled in concrete culverts, and dams galore where there is no need for dams. The criminal political elites that approve these projects get in return huge kickbacks from the selected contractors, and electoral votes from rustics who draw salaries working for these contractors. It's hundreds of billions of dollars of the Japanese taxpayers' money, and huge swaths of a uniquely beautiful country, burned with malice aforethought, every year.
In Canada, the Liberal Party held government power for over 80 years, until 1984, and intermittently since then. Such a feat cannot be accomplished cleanly. Indeed, multiculturalism is the invention of Canada's Liberal Prime Minister (roughly 1968-1984), Pierre Trudeau, who first conceived the idea of importing and atomizing a new electorate from all corners of the globe, to give the finger to the old country's too-ornery Caucasians.
All the corrupt ways that have glued one Canadian party to the seat of power for so long are not widely known, if at all. But in 2004 it transpired that for eight years the Liberal Party had been involved in a racket of payoffs, Mob ties, a $250 million slush fund, over $100 million in phony government contracts, and a general pattern of siphoning off hundreds of millions of taxpayers' dollars to further the Liberal Party's monopoly on power.
We could go on about comparative government corruption in history and across cultures, for it’s a busy field. But there is a particular kind of corruption that concerns us here: using the levers of democracy to dissolve the demos and usurp oligarchic power. It's the worst corruption there is, for it results in bloodshed and upheaval.
A dammed river can be revived, and stolen billions can be replaced by new economic activity. But to steal a people's historical identity, its culture, language and community, must inevitably lead to the terrible alternatives of secession, civil war and rebirth, or decay, downfall, and disintegration. It's the worst an elite can do to its people.
And this is what the transnational European elite has done in dumping onto its peoples 20 million Muslims with the inseparable baggage of jihad, sharia, beheadings, honor killings, bombings and endless strife and mayhem. It’s the same elite that, without the consent of the governed, made of Europe a European Union, subjected the citizens of 27 nations to the whim of unelected bureaucrats in Brussels, and keeps pushing by deceptive means an EU Constitution on nations that have already rejected it.
The American elite's variant of this treason is an agenda to Latinize and de-whiten the United States by any means possible. If such a policy were imposed on a nonwhite population, it would have been denounced as ethnic cleansing. The workings of this scheme were illuminated in a paper authored by an ex-Mexican government official, Fredo Arias-King: "Immigration and Usurpation; Elites, Power, and the People’s Will." In our opinion, Mr. Arias-King's paper deserves to be honored with the subtitle Federalist #86.
Arias-King accounts how, over the years of his contacts with American legislators on behalf of the Mexican Government, 90% of them expressed enthusiastic support for increased immigration from Latin America, asking Mexican authorities to "send more." At the same time, the American pols kept this enthusiasm hidden from their constituents, as they were aware that Americans are overwhelmingly against this "downmarket" immigration.
Mr. Arias-King quotes the usual reasons that he was told: Democrats wanted Democratic voters, and Republicans wanted to please their pro-Latin-immigration sponsors: business and churches. But then he adds:
While Democratic legislators we spoke with welcomed the Latino vote, they seemed more interested in those immigrants and their offspring as a tool to increase the role of the government in society and the economy. Several of them tended to see Latin American immigrants and even Latino constituents as both more dependent on and accepting of active government programs and the political class guaranteeing those programs, a point they emphasized more than the voting per se. Moreover, they saw Latinos as more loyal and "dependable" in supporting a patron-client system and in building reliable patronage networks to circumvent the exigencies of political life as devised by the Founding Fathers and expected daily by the average American.
Republican lawmakers we spoke with knew that naturalized Latin American immigrants and their offspring vote mostly for the Democratic Party, but still most of them [snip] were unambiguously in favor of amnesty and of continued mass immigration [from Mexico]. [T]hey believed that these immigrants are more malleable than the existing Americans; That with enough care, convincing, and "teaching," they could be converted, be grateful, and become dependent on them. Republicans seemed to idealize the patron-client relation with Hispanics as much as their Democratic competitors did
These legislators seemingly believed that they could weaken the restraining and frustrating straightjacket devised by the Founding Fathers and abetted by American norms. In that idealized "new" United States, political uncertainty, demanding constituents, difficult elections, and accountability in general would "go away" after tinkering with the People, who have given lawmakers their privileges but who [snip] can also "unfairly" take them away. Hispanics would acquiesce and assist in the "natural progress" of these legislators to remain in power and increase the scope of that power. In this sense, Republicans and Democrats were similar.
Some legislators had also mentioned to us (oftentimes laughing) how they had "defanged" or "gutted" anti-immigration bills and measures, by neglecting to fund this program or tabling that provision, or deleting the other measure, etc.
The paper also analyzes the political culture of Latino populations that make them attractive to self-serving American politicians, the negative social and fiscal effects of Latino immigration, the ties of the Bush family to the ruling Mexican oligarchy, and other related topics. Published in July 2006, the paper predates the Shamnesty battle by a full year. But Mr. Arias-King may have been prescient. In the concluding paragraphs he writes:
America is being used by the political class to undermine their democracy and as a tool to liberate the political elites from the Jeffersonian and Madisonian constraint. [snip] Americans may take a cue from Spanish/Latin American culture itself and engage in what Spaniards call acción directa, or "direct action." [snip] The Founding Fathers also prescribed a cure for usurpation. Hopefully the American people will not apply it so literally, for the sake of those legislators.
Shamnesty exposed the lies, hoaxes, switch-and-baits; the 3-card monte with RINO's and K Street Republicans posing as champions of the people while doing the bidding of Ted Kennedy & Co; the fraud imbedded in SB 1384/1639 and in its gestation process; the arrogant, lying President and Senate cronies flinging bogus charges of racism, bigotry, nativism and hate at opponents of Shamnesty.
The battle brought into daylight the giant axis of amnesty and national-dissolution, whose agents had previously seemed detached, even antagonistic to each other. They were, inter alia: the U.S. Federal Government; the leadership of both parties; the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal; U.S. Chamber of Commerce and an alphabet soup of unskilled workers' labor unions; La Raza and Cato Institute; American Jewish Committee and Arab American Institute Foundation; the Catholic Church and assorted Evangelical organizations.
Against them arose a spontaneous group of citizens, with ad-hoc leadership from a few radio and TV talk-show hosts, a few websites, and a shoestring citizen's lobby, Numbers USA. They were given vital assistance from a few backbench Senators who chose to spit into the Senate's mess of potage, rather than spit in the face of the American people. Their names should be etched in granite: Jim DeMint, Jeff Sessions, Tom Coburn, David Vitter.
Since 1962, with Ronald Reagan's presidency and the Newt Gingrich House in 1994/5 the only exceptions, this republic has not been able to yield, identify, and vote into the White House and Congress a majority elite possessing the wisdom, virtue, and love of country necessary to beat back dystopia, deconstruction, and depravity. But the price of liberty is eternal vigilance, and the people get the elite they elect and deserve.
On April 20, 1653, Oliver Cromwell, frustrated with the venality and ineffectualness of the British Rump Parliament, stood up during a session at the House of Commons and addressed England's legislators in these words:
It is high time for Me to put an End to your Sitting in this Place, which you have dishonoured by your Contempt of all Virtue, and defiled by your Practice of every Vice. Ye are a factious Crew and Enemies of all good Government; Ye are a Pack of mercenary Wretches and would, like Esau, Sell your Country for a Mess of Pottage; and like Judas, betray your God for a few Pieces of Money.
Is there a single Virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one Vice that you do not possess? Ye have no more Religion than my horse! Gold is your God: Which of you have not bartered your Conscience for Bribes? Is there a Man amongst you that has the least care for the Good of the Commonwealth?
Ye sordid prostitutes! Have you not defiled this Sacred Place, and turned the Lord's Temple into a Den of Thieves by your immoral Principles and wicked Practices? Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole Nation. You were deputed here to get grievances redressed; are not yourselves become the greatest grievance?
Your Country therefore calls upon me to cleanse the Augean Stable, by putting a final Period to your Iniquitous Proceedings in this House, and which by God's Help, and the strength He has given Me, I now come to do. I command ye, therefore, upon the Peril of your Lives, to depart immediately out of this Place; Go! Get out! Make haste, ye Venal Slaves, begone!
The seeds of Shamnesty, the inevitable future demographic and economic calamity, were obvious to those who see, already in 1965. A mighty forest has grown by now, and we have just woken, barely. We had been lulled to sleep with Neg-Am mortgages, American Idol, clever hardware with stupid software, porn, cheap present imports masking expensive future pain, miseducation, and loads of unwarranted self-esteem. We have been cowed to submission with massive propaganda campaigns trumpeting the evils of our "racism," and extolling the curative powers of the snake oil blend of "multiculturalism," "diversity," "tolerance," and "nation of immigrants."
Unless the June 2007 rise of the people augurs a new era, to cleanse our own Augean Stable may require our own Cromwell, one day.

You have in a few words described the feelings of the American public. We do need a house cleaning and I am very hopeful that Fred will run and list all of the people he wants flushed over the next two elections. He will get it if he is bold and honest. Flush em'all would be a great slogan.
To lose the American identity in the next twenty years would be criminal. Talk radio is the only hope in bringing this message to the masses. This is why the elites want it killed so bad. I think we have only three or four years for correction. After this the die is cast.
Maybe Texas should break off from the States to shake things up. I would move there in a heart beat with my business. They could export their oil to the States.
Your article should be given to all Americans that can think for themselves, all ten thousand of them.

A chilling assemblage of relevant facts. As a long term opponent of the type of thinking that you so well expose, I would commend it to anyone who wants to better understand what we are up against.
