End immigration now, before it ends us.
It's hard to think of a battle that has been won by being defensive. You may be most skilled at blocking and slipping punches, but if that is all you do, sooner or later your opponent will land a few and enjoy victory. This occurs to me as I watch the latest amnesty battle.
As you may know, the DREAM Act — the latest Scamnesty scheme – is being debated in Congress at this moment. And it may be the Mexican dream, but it's our nightmare. But that isn't what I want to address today.
We may defeat this proposal as we did the last, but so what?
Are you surprised? Do I sound overly cavalier or a tad defeatist? Here is my point: Until we transform this debate and talk about the true remedy for our problem — namely, halting legal immigration — we will labor in vain.
As I have said before, illegal immigration isn't the problem, but merely an exacerbation of the problem. As long as we perpetuate our current immigration scheme – a formula dictating that 85 percent of immigrants will hail from the Third World and Asia – the demographic revolution we have witnessed will continue, attended by descent into Third World status.
This is the third rail of the American immigration debate, the emperor-has-no-clothes-issue, the untouchable element. It gets at a truth that no one even dares contemplate because, by golly, we're a nation of immigrants. That is what we’re told and it's not to be questioned; it is dogma. Why, I can almost hear Zero Mostel bellowing "Tradition!"
Then again, I can also hear that apocryphal saying: "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result."
Advocating a moratorium on legal immigration would be a return to sanity that could turn the tide. We would finally be taking the offense and proposing a change in the traditionalist direction, as opposed to making proactivity the province of the Left. We would finally be pushing back, demanding some of the adversary's territory instead of just defending ours. Of course, we do have one other choice.
Certain defeat.
We may end this bad DREAM, but the Left will be back, maybe in a few months, maybe in a year. And then they will return again and again and again and again; they will continue to make their proposals and propagandize, cajole and coerce, until one of their nail-in-the-coffin laws passes. It's not a matter of if, only when; one of those big punches will eventually land. This is the consequence of being defensive.
Thus, proposing the elimination of immigration is not only the right thing, it's the only thing. The present course of action guarantees eventual defeat, as the traditionalist side gets worn down through constant attack and people become acclimated to the idea of scamnesty-by-another-name. But if we finally start making the proposals — if we finally say to the Left, "No! You no longer drive the agenda, we have a say now" — we'll be pushing back. Then, at worst, maybe we will, to use apropos terminology, be in a Mexican stand-off. And then perhaps, just possibly, we will have the time to alter the American consciousness and muster up the popular will to save our republic.
It's push back or be pushed around.
End immigration now, before it ends us.

I am not sure that I agree with ending legal immigration but I do support the philosophy that any immigrant that enters our crowded country, replete with a complete set of welfare state benefit goodies, should bring something other than their warm body to the table. Let's go to a need of the country immigration process where entrance is allowed (ONLY after we have found that we cannot retrain, pay enough, or otherwise qualify citizens for a position) for a number sufficient to meet our current needs with no lookahead. A concurrent requirement would be that there is no chain migration and only limited direct family migration documented by DNA

end immigration? heres what no one wants to discuss. many immigrants who come from nations other than mexico, have records, transcripts, resumes that they want to keep and build on when they come here. these people are not a drain on our economy because they pay 5-7 times their wieght to attend schools, students they have tremendous difficulty in finding work, all the will illegals from mexico come up and get fake identification, go to public schools with ther friends address and use the hospitals and other public services to their benifits that IMMIGRANTS are not elligible for until they are nationalized, marry a citizen, greeen card etc.
you idiots don't even discuss the real issues! at this point in time we are importing more professional talent than we are raising, and exporting more jobs than we are creating! who's responsible for the exporting of american jobs. The hypocritical right that spins all ther wrongdoing upon the left. gladly i am in the middle like most of america and watch the lies go round and round while nothing gets done.

Before you go around calling other people idiots, it would add tremendous weight to your insult if you had any idea what you were talking about. First, illegal immigrants are eligible for even fewer benefits than legal ones are if you read the law as it is written. But then again, if you read the law as it is written, they're supposed to get turned away at the border, be denied jobs when they apply with fake ID, be denied voting privileges, and not be able to obtain a driver's license. So whether or not any type of immigrant is eligible for whatever benefits is irrelevant - they get them anyway. Legal immigrants from Mexico and other third world countries do no better than their illegal counterparts. Immigrants that are imported via our job-priority system do very well. Because they already have education, skills, and job potential! How novel.
Also, I'm not sure how you figure that "the right" and their wrongdoing is responsible for outsourcing American jobs (I guess Dick Cheney and Karl Rove are secretly forcing every company in America to cut costs by using cheaper foreign labor inbetween their trips to Iraq to steal oil. Anyway, I'd hate to bother with you with pesky things like logic to support your conclusion), but if they were, you'd really have a point with that hypocrisy thing.

Please explain why the Right has to use logic, but the Left can get away with using their feelings. If we abandoned logic and just said (for example), “end immigration because doing so ‘feels’ good,” look how much easier it would be to make our case (and it would only be logical, too).

And while the discussion goes on we import not only the unwashed masses that sneak in, we also bring in questionably credentialed employees on our visa programs while citizens are available to do the high level jobs but companies lie about the labor pool. Why? Cheaper and more docile!

sedonaman,
My comment was directed at dave_patriot because he was spouting off blanket statements with no supporting reasoning or facts. I wasn't criticizing the right or excusing the left. To answer your question quite simply though: the right has to use logic because its constituents demand it. The left does not have to use logic because its constituents do not demand it. In fact, they don't even want it. They want emotionalism - and the left is more than happy to give it to them, as you pointed out.

Have you read Dr. Phil Jackson’s series, “The Looney Liberal Chronicles”? If not, I encourage you to do so, as it is a riot. If you already have, you might want to re-read Chapter 8 of the series, particularly the part about his becoming a liberal Democrat.

I have one solution to the problem of illegal immigration which I believe protects America’s interests and is fair and balanced to all:
Begin by building 100 miles of fence monitoring its effectiveness throughout the process. After completion make an evaluation and continue based on its effectiveness in achieving the desired result.
Require each individual residing in our country to obtain a tamperproof ID
verifying whether he is or is not a U. S. citizen within, say one year.
Announce in advance that at the end of the one year period anyone who is not a citizen, and does not have an ID as of that date, will be deported immediately.
Anyone using a government service such as obtaining a drivers license, school education or medical care would provide citizenship information when they request the service. Anyone receiving government benefits would therefore be forced to obtain an ID.
All those with IDs who are not U.S. citizens would have undergone a security check verifying they have not committed crimes and are not a terror threat to America.
Those who were determined to have committed a crime would be deported immediately. Those who were ascertained to be terror threats would be held in custody.
Those remaining in the country with a security checked ID would be allowed to stay, but with no change in their status. Their status would be left to some future point where their behavior in paying taxes, learning the language, and showing other evidence of assimilating would allow the voters to develop a consensus on how they should be handled. They should not be granted immediate amnesty as this would reward illegal behavior against those who have patiently waited in line often for years to obtain citizenship. It would be akin to an officer of the law arresting a speeder and handing him $50.00 instead of a regular ticket or a warning ticket. The proposal here is like a warning ticket. It does not change the status but it neither penalizes nor rewards. Plus one fact not usually considered is that with fewer illegal immigrants coming to this country those here because of their diminished availability and their good work skills would probably see a 20% increase in their earnings and would not be particularly unhappy with not being citizens. Several weeks ago I talked to a plumber who used some of these illegal immigrants occasionally. He told me he had to pay them $10.00 per hour ($7.00 is minimum wage) and if he told them they were going to do some digging they would not even get in his truck. So much for living in the shadows.
To eliminate the desire of immigrants to come here, employers who hired those without ID cards would be fined, say, $30,000 for each occurrence which would be strictly and equally enforced. With a fine of this magnitude being enforced, all employers would no longer hire any person without a valid ID.
I am a Republican presidential candidate probably among the top dozen or so. I feel it is very important for all candidates to express their opinions as to how they would solve a variety of our country's problems so voters can make an intelligent decision on who to choose.
