good article. indeed, most of the islamic middle east is unready for democracy...in fact islam and democracy as we in the west understand it are hard to reconcile. islam has yet to and may never experience its reformation - the moment where its adherants look around at all the bloody suffering caused by their intolerant, only-way-to-heaven, religion and see fundamentalism for the bloody beast it is - like most western christians did some 400 years ago...

regardless, we cannot continue to run around the world trying to make every bassackward hellhole safe for "democracy", walmart and rupert murdoch.

what i find utterly hilarious and what it seems nobody in this country remembers is that iran was actually approaching democracy on its own in the early 50's, but made the dire mistake of using fdr as their model, talking of nationalizing their own oil! COMMERNISM! ha ha...so we and our lapdogs the limeys destroyed their nascent democracy and installed a brutal monarchical dictator, the shah!

they remember this, by the way...

so the bigger issue is, neither should we run around slaughtering countries into "freedom" over trumped up lies, nor should we covertly meddle in their internal affairs...to destroy democratic movements that dare consider taking actions contrary to our business interests...

makes us look like terrorists...
