Steve Sabin,

Thank you for conveying exactly what I was trying to say, 10 times more effectively, with half as many words.

Of all the poster boys that could be used to garner outrage regarding the erosion of 2nd amendment rights, why in the world submit Sean Taylor as Exhibit A?

Perhaps Mr. Pratt can dig a little deeper next time before asking us to express indignation. Or, then again, maybe he can give us another column -- this time using Tupak Shakur to make his points and solicit sympathy.

It would be equally effective.

Gun control didn't disarm Sean Taylor. Being a criminal thug disarmed Sean Taylor. Legitimate uses for guns are self defense when one's life is in danger - not chasing down people who have destroyed your property after the fact and wielding a gun to threaten them (all of which, regardless of how they were prosecuted, happened). Sean Taylor shouldn't own a gun. He demonstrated through his actions that he was willing to use one irresponsibly. Let's also not overlook that associating with criminal thugs is what ultimately killed Sean Taylor - he knew all but one of the men who robbed and shot him, and employed one of them. And because of his own irresponsible actions, he found himself wielding a machete to protect himself against the criminal thugs with whom he associates. I have no sympathy for his situation. You can cast him as an upright family man who simply wanted to protect himself all you want, but reality tells a very different story.
