Based on anecdotal evidence my son collected while delivery pizzas in Long Beach, CA, the homes with the nicest televisions and expensive DirecTV subscriptions are in the ghetto. He routinely delivered to families with several children living in small apartments, many of which did not lack their share of expensive electronics.

P.S. Lack of health insurance does not equal lack of health care, as the statement assumes.

"Health insurance and poverty should be treated as separate issues"

Not only that, but health insurance and health should be treated as separate issues. The average age of Americans has increased over the last 50 years. The infant death rate has declined. The cost of common medications, such as aspirin, has declined, while knowledge of medical treatments has increased. Why is this not discussed? Could demagoguery be involved?
