Having been on the road for the last few days I was looking forward to your take on the situation in Georgia. Listening to the radio on my way home, I had to endure the endless condemnation of the Russians and specifically Mr. Putin who one talk show host insisted on calling Phew-ton. One caller even insisted on calling the people of the larger country “The Soviets”. Not one person mentioned the fact that Joseph Stalin was a Georgian, but the KGB connections of Mr. Putin was a constant comment. Having close relatives in the Baltics, and Russia, I know about the resentments between the newly independent people and the ethnic Russians living in their country. That Russia is protecting it’s own in South Ossetia is certainly a possibility. In any case, it is not a time for the USA to go off half-cocked. After all, even if I support the measure, did we not invade two countries in that same area recently?
