At the time there were explanations for the withdrawal that made NO sense and I thought to myself "The Israelis are saying to the Palestinians, now it is up to you. We are no longer occupiers. If you screw it up, we will no longer have to send police, but we will send the IDF.” The so-called Palestinians “Elected” Hamas in a major screw up. Has there ever been a group of people so intent on occupying a little strip of land and antagonizing their neighbor in such a way? I think of the Native Americans, but even they were smart enough to take $24 in exchange for Manhattan. I could see this coming in 2005 when Israel withdrew from Gaza.
