“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

The history of the second amendment is one aimed at making sure that the government never becomes so oppressive that citizens have to take action. An armed citizenry is a safe citizenry.

Of course, a government that is taking serious steps toward oppression has a vested interest in making sure that the citizens are not armed, otherwise they might take steps to reconstitute the government in its correct configuration instead of the bloated socialist entity it has become.

I am further amused at some of the other areas they attack. Semi-automatic shotguns will be targeted as an assault weapon. Obviously the people proposing this ban know nothing about weapons and rate of fire. If you doubt this take your favorite 12 guage automatic out along with your favorite pump 12 guage and run fire tests to see which one delivers more rounds per minute. you will be surprised (or maybe not surprised) to find that, in most cases, the pump will outperform the semi-automatic.
