The argument that religion is important as a bulwark against moral relativism is sound, but Ms. Fabrizio needs to brush up on ancient history. Up until the time the Roman Church became the official religion of the Roman Empire, bisexuality of the nature of classical Greece was widely practiced with, of course, the Judaic Middle East. This form of bisexuality lingered in many parts of the world afterwards, particulaly the Muslim lands. It is worth mentioning that the Islamic heaven not only has the houris, but young boys (ghilman) as well.

The claim against infanticide betrays the same historical ignorance—exposure of unwanted infants was common in the ancient world and was virtually a religion in ancient Sparta, the classical Greek model for the National Socialist state.

Ms. Fabrizio also misses the most sinister development in the Left’s war on religion, namely the subversion of religion as a bulwark against moral relativism by turning religion into a gospel of relativism, i.e., the Religious Left. This is far worse than Marx’s abolition of religion, because it cloaks relativism in virtue. Ms. Fabrizio might reflect on the fact that many allegedly respectable mainstream churches supported the Communist victory in Indochina and that at least four Christian ministers and one rabbi spent the night in Bill Clinton’s White House despite the fact he was unrepentant for promoting mass murder and genocide by supporting the Communist victory in Indochina. The Roman Church is not blameless here, as well. It did nothing to discipline its clergy who promoted mass murder and genocide in the same way, such as the Berrigan brothers. This is hardly pro-life.
