The pro-abortion measures already signed by Mr. Obama, as well as his plans to make abortion a "health care right" by passing FOCA, have gone virtually unreported in the mainstream media.
Although it is shameful that Notre Dame will soon award a radically pro-abortion President with an honorary degree, President Obama's visit to the prestigious Catholic university could resuscitate the pro-life movement and potentially wound Mr. Obama politically. The event provides pro-life leaders with a golden, one-time opportunity to educate Americans about pro-abortion measures Mr. Obama has already signed and those he intends to implement, including the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), which would remove all restrictions on abortion.
With so much focus on the economy, few Americans know about Mr. Obama's actions against human life thus far. He has signed executive orders that allow American tax dollars to fund abortions throughout the world, remove conscience protection for doctors who refuse to perform abortions on moral or religious grounds, and permit the destruction of human embryos for stem cell research.
Mr. Obama's ultimate goal is to implement FOCA, which would strike down federal and state laws that place limits on abortion. It would override bans on partial-birth abortion, increase funding for abortion, remove restrictions on abortion such as parental notification for minors, and force health care practitioners, such as Catholic hospitals and pro-life physicians, to perform abortions. These laws, especially parental involvement, informed consent, and restrictions on government funding of abortions, significantly reduce the number of abortions.
The pro-abortion measures already signed by Mr. Obama, as well as his plans to make abortion a "health care right" by passing FOCA, have gone virtually unreported in the mainstream media. But with the controversy and media coverage surrounding Mr. Obama's visit to Notre Dame, Americans might finally become aware of his radical pro-abortion agenda.
Mr. Obama can ill-afford publicity about his scorn for the unborn and his relentless assault on human life, especially amid growing concerns about his extravagant spending, expansion of government, and questionable patriotism. FOCA is a greater threat to the principles upon which this country was founded, namely the "right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," than all of Mr. Obama's socialist economic policies combined. If passed, it will hammer in the last nail in the coffin of our "culture of death."
When Mr. Obama's war against innocent human life is revealed, it will come as a surprise only to people who obtain their news and information solely from the mainstream media. From the beginning of his presidential campaign, the expansion of abortion rights was at the top of Mr. Obama's agenda. In a speech to Planned Parenthood in February 2008, Senator Obama said the following: "The first thing I'd do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. That's the first thing I'd do." The speech was posted on YouTube, but was absent from the evening news.
Thus, few Americans knew about FOCA before the election, and few know about it now. The abortion issue was barely discussed during the entire presidential race; FOCA was never mentioned. As FOCA sits on our nation's doorstep, it is still being ignored by most of the media.
Both Mr. Obama and the mainstream media have deliberately concealed his agenda regarding abortion. They don't want Americans to know about FOCA because the majority of Americans are still fairly conservative. Almost all parents would strongly object to a law stating they don't have a right to know about their 13-year-old daughter's abortion. Yet, that is what FOCA is proposing.
Based on Mr. Obama's track record thus far, he has every intention of keeping his campaign promises to Planned Parenthood. By forcing FOCA upon the nation, he is trying to make abortion available to anyone, at any time, at any place. It is estimated that FOCA would result in approximately 125,000 more abortions per year in the United States. But didn't Obama say in one of the presidential debates that "no one is for abortion" and that he will work at "reducing the number of abortions"? Yes, and O.J. is still searching for the real killer.
FOCA is a natural outcome of Roe v. Wade. Evil always fails to satisfy, and Roe v. Wade is no exception. Apparently, Planned Parenthood, Mr. Obama and other pro-choice advocates feel that not enough people are choosing abortion, so they are now promoting and even forcing abortion upon us.
After FOCA fails to satisfy, what will be next on the agenda — killing babies in their mothers' arms? Let us pray that Mr. Obama's visit to the nation's premier Catholic university will prevent such a scenario and be the wake up call our country so desperately needs.
