Many prescient young people experiencing socialism for the first time have started to notice its foul taste.
It started decades ago in this country: the hammering away at the notion that ours is a noble and commendable history. From the demonization of Christopher Columbus and our founding fathers to the endless recriminations concerning reparations — both moral and pecuniary — for past sins that are due to those who never suffered directly under them. And now our President has the uncontrollable urge to apologize for every action by the United States which may or may not have caused pain to anyone, anywhere around the globe.
Some of us who take a more charitable view, have tried to explain this attitude away as an erosion of the concept of American exceptionalism; but the simple truth is, that what most liberals are selling is a program of national self-hate. But liberal logic is never lacking in irony. These very same feelings of patriotism and pride in our heritage that they disparage are, of course, lauded in others; particularly our Muslim enemies. And it is this kind of thinking that is finally catching up to them.
That Barack Obama's poll numbers have tanked is not news. Considering the cloying adoration the media have shown him, it's the speed with which they've dropped that should be cause for alarm for his supporters. But from the viewpoint of the loyal opposition, the delicious poll numbers are those which suggest a growing distaste for some of the pillars of the liberal agenda. A glance at the latest Rasmussen Reports should send shivers down the spines of Democrats everywhere.
For the first time, the number of Americans not buying into the human-caused global warming canard is greater than those who have bowed to the near-total propaganda campaign supporting it. 45 percent of us think that labors unions weaken our country and nearly half think they have outlived their usefulness. And in a development sure to impact future elections, a whopping 83 percent of those polled think that only U.S. citizens should have access to government healthcare subsidies. And speaking of same, while opposition to health care reform is now at 53 percent overall, the shocking number is that 62 percent of independent voters are opposed to it. So it's not surprising that Republicans are gaining in the generic congressional ballot polling. But why?
I have long contended that the liberal desire to impose socialism on America is one that must be induced gradually and covertly; much like Mary Poppins' contention that a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. Were its aims not couched in sweet-sounding terms like "social justice," "saving the planet" and "it's for the children," Americans would have rejected liberalism's tender mercies years ago. Without these niceties, naked ambition can be seen as it really is: naked.
Because, at its heart, the true goal of "progressives" is the repudiation of all that this country was founded on, particularly the right of its people to govern themselves in a way that counts the protections of private property and personal freedom as sacrosanct, and is codified under the tenets of natural law as defined by the Judeo-Christian ethic. And this is why, under the guise of their decades-long campaign to raise the self-esteem of our countrymen and especially our children, what has taken place is just the opposite; at least where it concerns their citizenship.
They have encouraged us to revile our predecessors as bigoted, hateful empire-builders, driven by a misguided reliance on religion; and reduced our defense of freedom around the world to a pathetic form of misplaced patriotism. They embrace, as Pope Benedict XVI has said, "a pacifism that does not recognize that some values are worthy of being defended and that assigns the same value to everything." In a word, they desire to make America into an unlovely nation by seeing to it that it is unloved.
But self-hate can only go so far before it immolates its object: itself. And this is what explains the sudden repudiation of the Obama agenda: too much socialism, far too soon. Again, when ladled out in tiny portions and sweetened by euphemistic doublespeak, liberalism may be tolerated by a trusting populace; one that has always had a good and charitable heart. But after seizing power so quickly and attempting to rush their radical agenda through a friendly Congress, the wolf's fangs are laid bare as the sheep's clothing falls away.
Because the thing is, while there are many folks alive who remember the dismal failures of socialism and its big brother communism, there are also many prescient young people who are experiencing it for the first time and have noticed its foul taste; smothered though it may be in syrupy media pap. It can't make too many liberals happy that according to John Zogby, 41 percent of Americans under 30 now disapprove of the President's handling of his job.
It's often said that George W. Bush's attempts to reform Social Security failed because he dared to tread on the third rail of American politics. But it is the Democrats who are getting the hotfoot this time; shocked as they are their countrymen are refusing to accept government control of their lives for their own good. And for Americans, that is a total expression of self-love.

All of this actually started back in 2000. Progressives had been nurturing their hatred for all things American for a generation. Al Gore was the original Anointed One. Here was a person groomed and primed for true liberal leadership. One well versed in the religion of social/progressivism; a new champion of one of the more successful liberal administrations. He was poised to ascend to his rightful place as the new political leader of the greatest country on earth. The presidency was Al Gore’s birthright! There was no longer any reason to hide behind deceptive language. The Clinton administration had guaranteed the ascendance of the social/progressive agenda. President Gore would cement the process.
The election was his to lose, and lose it he did. His over-confident, condescending, ‘Holier than Thou’ treatment of his second-string adversary from the State of Texas provided endless hours of gleeful entertainment to social progressives across the country. To them the outcome was inevitable. George Bush Jr. was a sacrificial lamb being led to political slaughter.
The outcome of both that; and the subsequent election of 2004 have brought the force of the hatred harbored by the progressives into sharp focus. Liberals everywhere literally went out of their minds! Both Hollywood progressives and all other progressive defenders of the faith became vocally outraged against the administration. Some threatened to flee the country. Others could not open their mouths without spewing hatred for all things Bush. Literally every thing George did was wrong, bad, deplorable, stupid and immoral. This was my first encounter with people who actually believed George Bush to be simultaneously so ‘retarded’ as to be sub-human, yet at the same time so gifted as to blind everyone to his crafty, cunning manipulative nature. How could any person possibly believe someone to be concurrently stupid and intelligent?
The progressives were so consumed with their collective hatred of both the country and anything conservative that they immediately began the process to exterminate this conservative tumor once and for all.
So, true to their ‘how-can-we-trick’em-today’ mentality; they ran stealth candidates during the mid-term elections of 2006. Candidates they were certain would pull independents to their banner by proclaiming they were ‘fiscal conservatives’. They also began the process of elevating their newest creation. Having lost out by backing both Gore and Kerry; they decided to nominate someone guaranteed to have no liberal record to debate. Someone who had absolutely no discernable track record to analyze. A minority who could claim the mantle of a transcendental candidate. One who would usher in a new age of post-racial cooperation. Poor Hillary, she had no idea that the revolutionaries she had given so many years of her allegiance to were fixin’ to toss her under the bus for somebody with decidedly less political baggage.
The liberal media was complicit in all this. First, they positively anointed the weakest conservative they could find and declared him the standard bearer of the Republican Party. While most of us privately thought that we could never locate someone within the party more inept than George Bush, the media found him for us.
They also began a concerted effort to marginalize or ignore completely, any of the connections to the revolutionary characters of their candidates past. They were certain that with media control over what became news, no one would realize that they were about to foist the perfect Manchurian Candidate upon the American people.
They ran more stealth progressives in Congressional districts during the election of 2008, and succeeded in taking majorities in both Houses of Congress plus the Executive branch.
Progressives were positively giddy on the morning of November 3rd! They had it all. They were going to use their majorities to shove all those knuckle-dragging, troglodyte, conservative, nut cases into the 21 Century. They were going to apologize to the world, prosecute all participants in the Iraq War to ensure that nothing of conservative foreign policy ever reared its ugly head again. Lay low the corporate CEO’s and raise up the blue-collar unions, destroy capitalism, and make everyone, except themselves of course, the same. They had executed their plan flawlessly. Problem was, their own plan bit them in the ass.
Their problem is that they believed their own crap. They thought that since 66 million had voted for Obama that it meant that all 310 million would follow. In short, they over-reached.
They never paid any attention to any poll they couldn’t rig, never thought that there could be any program or policy more popular than their own. And when people started asking intelligent questions regarding what they were trying to do they responded with; “Shut up! We won!”
Now their own ‘fiscally’ conservative liberal congressmen are turning on them. They happen to like those Washington jobs and are not about to commit political suicide for progressive ideals. They’ve apologized to every country on the planet and all it’s gotten them is more problems as the world’s dictators begin taking advantage of their weakness. They are now up to their collective necks in Afghanistan, and are finding out the hard way what it means to prosecute a war. They have no idea what to do with those Gitmo detainees. Apparently it no longer seems like such a good idea to simply unlock the doors and say “You’re free! Fly away!” They no longer complain about the previous administrations half-a-trillion dollar deficit as their Messiah has already more than doubled-down on that wager. They have control of Congress, the mortgage industry, the banks, and two major manufacturing concerns; and it’s all swirling faster and faster around the bowl. They cannot believe that every day people have learned so quickly how to battle back against their policies. It was just within their grasp, and now its all slipping through their collective fingers; if you’ll pardon the pun.
Their own pundits are predicting the loss of 20 to 30 seats in this next election. They become more embarrassed each day as their ‘not-ready-for-prime-time’ chief executive blunders from one disastrous policy decision to another. Really; what other President in history has made 30 speeches on one topic in six months and not succeeded in capturing the people’s minds?
The liberal/progressive worked for more than a generation to get exactly what they wanted; near total control of the country. We conservatives were wrong. We thought that if control ever fell to the progressives in this country, it would be a decade before we could regain the upper hand. Looks like it’ll take about fourteen months.
