Thomas states; "Many supporters of Obamacare argue that healthcare already is rationed by money availability." He also says; "The new standard is egalitarian: that is, everyone should have free and equal access to all the goods and services produced by our economy."

These are two 'selling points' that progressives utilize to make nationalized health care seem palatable. However; these are false points. While nationalized health care is being sold to the American People as a personal 'right'; it is being designed as a 'state' right. the state has no compassion for the individual. The state's only overriding interest is the continuance of the state. Let's look at another federal program to highlight this issue.

The federal government provides money to states for public education. The federal control forced on the school in return for these funds is ubiquitous. The money the feds provide for that amount of control only averages about 7% of any district's total expenditure. If 7% buys that much control over public education; how much control do you believe the federal government will want over each aspect of your lives in return for them paying for your health care? They will decide who is born, where they live, how they live, what they eat, what they may and may not do, and utilmately, how long they survive. Once the state reaches a diminishing return for their 'investment' in your existence, you can count on that 'investment' being curtailed.

Under the set of conditions we've outlined above; the only logical method of controlling cost IS to ration care. Health care decisions will HAVE to be made by applying some form of 'cost vs. benefit' analysis. One does not have to enter into the 'conspiracy' crowd in order to come to the reasonable conclusion that in order to prevent the country from becoming a 'health care plan with an army' that some restrictions will eventually HAVE to be placed upon the system in order to control costs.

Does Professor Walzer practice the social justice he preaches? If he did, he would not accept a salary higher than that of the lowest-paid worker at his university, which seems highly unlikely and means that he values his talents more than those of, say, the housekeeping staff. This was the kind of attitude that the Red Guards sought to eradicate by sending intellectuals to work the fields during Mao’s Great Cultural Revolution. Until Walzer practices what he preaches he should save his breath to cool his porridge. At bottom, leftists are phonies.
