Obama’s Sukah Plans For America

By the time our President is through with his economic and "green" plans for America, we all will be living in Sukah-like structures on a permanent basis.

For Jews around the world, the celebration of Sukot has begun. For this occasion, God, via Moses, commanded the citizens of Israel to live in booths, or huts, for a weeklong period. As a result, in Jewish communities around the world, temporary structures have been assembled and, accordingly, many Jews will be visiting one another, eating, and (sometimes) sleeping in these huts for the next week, rather than in their actual homes.

The temporary structure referred to above is a Sukah. The purpose of the Sukah is to help Jews recall the hard life that their ancestors shared while wandering in the desert after their liberation from Egypt. For this reason, the Sukah is to be a fragile structure, one that typifies a nomadic life on the move, with a roof made of branches or wood, but open enough to see the stars.

Whereas Moses only intended his people to live in a Sukah for one week out of the year and then return to their normal lives, President Obama has much grander expectations for his own people. By the time our President is through with his economic and "green" plans for America, we all will be living in Sukah-like structures on a permanent basis.

Probably not; as it will be illegal to construct such a thing without running afoul of newly passed environmental regulations prohibiting humans from cutting any wood, branch, bush, or piece of growing foliage.
