There is a magnificant opportunity for the UN to leave the US and provide its glorious leadership to rebuild a country as a good example of how a nation should work.

Please send the UN to Haiti! and get US out of the UN.

I understand your argument. I am still am more worried about how we gave away US sovereignty under the WTO and GATT. What are your thoughts on these treaties and this court that can over-ride US law?

I really think that America is strong enough that we do not need special privileges in undertaking foreign affairs as you suggest is the main reason to withdraw from the UN. We already are the largest empire on the planet and can make the UN do just about anything we want. It is still more cost effective to use diplomacy than to invade a country if Iraq and Afghanistan are any measure of.

Well, we couldn't stop the UN from stopping the use of land mines or creating rights for women and children. But, we didn't ratify those treaties, so we don't have to worry about them on US soil.

Don't forget we have successfully used the UN to block any international sanctions against Israel. Regardless about how the US views Israel, much of the planet feels that Israel goes too far in their use of force and have tried over and over to stop Israel. The US has used the US over and over again to stop the EU, Chavez, etc. We really can't afford to invade right now. We can't keep barrowing more money for yet another war.

Seems to me the UN is a cost effective tool, since it saves us trillions in starting a war with the EU or something crazy to stop them from retaliating against Israel.

Clinton, with Congress's "fast track" authority did sign treaties with the WTO and GATT, that have given away real sovereignty of the US. Now, business, municipalities and states and the federal government must bow to the authority of the GATT/WTO courts. Treaties become the "law of the land" and are therefore US law, under the Constitution. We gave their courts jurisdiction within the US to overturn US laws. Even Clinton had to acknowledge what these policies did to Haiti, in his apology to Congress last month.

Is the US going to be the next Haiti? Will we remain in the GATT, NAFTA and a part of the WTO?

Unless I'm mistaken:

6) Most, if not all, UN officials have diplomatic immunity.

An excellent article. No, we should not waste resources trying to reform the UN. We should get out of it altogether. That piece of human Communist vermin, Miguel D'Escoto Brockman, was not an early proponent of liberation theology. It was around long before him.
Get the US out of the UN, and the UN out of the US!
