On April 30th Arizona passed and Governor Jan Brewer signed SB 1070 igniting a firestorm here in the United States. Across this nation, political heavyweights and NGO's have subjected this sovereign state to mountains of abuse for daring to attempt what the federal government has been refusing to do for decades; protect US taxpayers from an invasion. Ultimately the federal government may leave Arizona with only one choice.
A little more than a month ago in the State of Arizona, after years of frustration with the federal government's lack of concern over the safety of Arizona citizens, the legislature passed and the governor signed into law SB 1070 in an attempt to quell an invasion. Shortly after the signing by Governor Brewer; the President, speaking at a naturalization ceremony for 24 active-duty service members in the Rose Garden, said the bill; "…threatened to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and our communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe." Really? A law that parallels in every aspect, current federal immigration law is somehow a ‘threat to basic notions of fairness'? Why? Because this law has a good chance, as opposed to the federal law, of actually being enforced? Fairness for whom; the persons who routinely thumb their nose at the rule of law so they may partake of the taxpayer bounty distributed to all who eventually reside here?
Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has been at loggerheads with her Catholic Faith for years over abortion, exhorted Catholic priests and bishops to preach against this bill from pulpits across the land. Apparently; this issue is of such importance that even the speaker is willing to temporarily ignore the separation of church and state she cites after each vote to further enshrine abortion into federal law.
Cardinal Roger M. Mahoney dutifully accepted his marching orders from his long-time nemesis and labeled the authorities ability to demand identification documents from suspected illegals as "Nazism". Nazism? I have to show an ID to rent a DVD at Blockbuster for Lord's sake! And they complain that if, during an actual interaction between Arizona law enforcement and a person of interest, that it smacks of Nazism to ask for identification. The next time you get pulled over for a traffic violation and the policemen asks for your driver's license scream "Nazi" and see what the reaction is. Lotsa' luck with that by-the-way.
Attorney General Eric Holder, who has quickly assumed the administration role of paid fool, announced said the department is considering a federal lawsuit against Arizona, and has directed Civil Rights Division lawyers to study the law and consult with civil rights groups.
Sanctuary cities across the nation, particularly in California, have announced boycotts of Arizona. Although in typical liberal fashion, tourism officials in San Diego are now urging Arizonans to consider the resolutions as merely symbolic and local politics at work. Responding to mass cancellations by Arizona citizens of San Diego hotel reservations; ConVis President Joe Terzi told the Union-Tribune. "This affects all the hardworking men and women (I wonder what their immigration status is?), who count on tourism for their livelihoods, so we're saying, don't do something that hurts their livelihoods." Translation; "We of the People's Republic of California believe that Arizonians are a bunch of knuckle-dragging, mouth breathing troglodytes. But just because we absolutely refuse to spend our IOU's in your backwater, racist, little state is no reason not to spend your hard-earned money with us."
Also, in typical liberal fashion, Attorney General Holder admitted during recent Congressional hearings that he had not actually bothered to read the 10 page law he has repeatedly excoriated publicly. Former Arizona Governor and current Homeland Security Chief Janet Napolitano has also recently admitted to Senator John McCain; "[I] have not reviewed it in detail. I certainly know of it, Senator. Let me just say this: As you know, and are well aware, that's not the kind of law I would have signed." This from a woman that, during a Senate Judiciary Committee on April 27 said that the Southwest border is "as secure as it has ever been," which is, no doubt, technically correct since illegal border crossings have averaged 900 per day over the last three years and that rate was probably the same during her governorship .
What is it with these Beltway types? It doesn't seem to matter if the legislation runs 2,400 pages, 1,700 pages or 10 pages. "Read the legislation? We don't need to read any stinkin' legislation. We already KNOW what's good for the country!" Does anybody need more proof that this administration is ruling purely from an ideological standpoint? This is not only pathetic; it makes America look like its being governed by a bunch of incompetent boobs; which I fear, it is.
In a perigee of hypocrisy Assistant Secretary of State Michael Posner, during an out brief after a two day conference with Chinese officials said that U.S. officials did not whitewash the American record on civil rights, and in fact raised on its [sic] own the new immigration law in Arizona that requires police to ask about a person's immigration status if there is suspicion the person is in the country illegally.Secretary Posner seems to be in direct competition with Attorney General Holder over who should lose his job first in this administration. If he can't distinguish the moral difference between a state enforcing a federal law and a nation that tortures and murders its own citizens for political reasons, he has no business being the Assistant Secretary Of State. One wonders what will be next in this ideologically driven administration; silly costumes, red noses, and big shoes no doubt.
One can easily see where this is headed. Once these nitwits within the administration actually get around to attempting to formulate the official challenge and find absolutely no constitutional grounds for negating this law, they will revert to the Chicago thug style politics that this administration falls back on whenever the legal system works against their wishes. I predict here, that eventually President Obama will announce that if Arizona dares to enforce this policy, that federal dollars usually distributed to that state for school programs, highways, and employment opportunities; in short all federal dollars, will be deliberately withheld until the state knuckles under, accepts the murders, kidnappings, and continued drug trafficking; and meekly allows the mayhem the federal government desires to continue to be foisted upon their taxpaying citizens.
This could very well become the issue that begins the process of the dissolution of the republic. When an uncaring federal government deliberately ignores the pleas of its citizens, and then threatens economic punishment upon those same citizens for trying to defend their lives and property, is it time for those people to dissolve their relationship with that government and strike out on their own? Will Arizona take the lead once again, and be the first state to declare itself ‘free'? Succession anyone?

See what kind of stupidity ignites firestorms? The Arizona law means nothing. Nothing. Because, without a secure border, expelled Mexican illegals will just reenter the country. Why are are fighting over this?
And I hate to point out to liberals that when you are looking for illegal Mexican immigrants, you don’t stop and question visiting Swedes or African-Americans. You stop those who look Mexican. Because that’s who you are looking for.
Profiling is picking on an ethnic group for a generic crime, like armed robbery. It’s wrong for the police to say, “Oh, clearly, all black people are good at armed robbery, so let’s go stop all the black people and question them” THAT’S profiling.
It is not profiling to address a problem that actually is limited to a single demographic. The whole idea is to look for illegals FROM MEXICO. Even if one wants to call it profiling, then it is justified profiling in this case. The American left is so embarrassing.

I understand the sentiment, but good luck with that. You do realize that if the power goes out in Arizona, most citizens die of dehydration right? They need those electrical water pumps. So they are pretty dependent upon the national power grid.
Will Arizona take the lead once again, and be the first state to declare itself ‘free’? Succession anyone?
You can probably get away with succession here pretty soon, because the feds are in no position to stop it. Dunno; it might be for the best; but China is going to dismantle us even faster then.
Imagine this scenario: US implodes, and then China starts making deals with individual states to pay the state to let them come in and scoop out whatever resources they want – just like they do in Africa. It wouldn’t take many states saying yes for this to be a big problem. And you know some would.
Martel732, If I follow your logic we should set up a kill zone at our borders.
By the way succession is not the same as secession which would mean a state wants to leave the union. Within the Constitution is a means to dissolve the union which is looking more and more attractive every day. There are also a couple of states that have a secession allowing clause in the terms negotiated when they became states.
So what would happen if the union dissolved? California would continue to decline further, New York and other north eastern states would fail further, and the rest of the country would enjoy a new union without all those looking for a free lunch. Make no mistake Ayn Rand was very insightful in her analysis of what happens when many have no stake in the country only a stake in what they can get from it in terms of welfare like section 8 housing, earned income tax credit for non-taxpaying welfare, Pell grant welfare, student subsidized loan welfare, child care and the list goes on. We can’t say let them eat cake because they are already eating our cake.
If the Arizona law is overturned every other criminal endeavor should also be overturned to not discriminate against other criminals.
Should we secure our borders, you bet! Right after we get those busses and airplanes running to remove the visa overstays and every last illegal. Can we deport 20 million sure, give them 90 days to leave then make their presence a capital offense.
Kill zone? Where did I mention a kill zone? A wall or a lot of guys or whatever would do just fine. Just something to prevent the futile cycle of deportation and then reentry. Sheesh.

I already feel like I have no stake. I’m not a shareholder of an important corporation. You know, when you work and work, and paid so little that all you can afford is rent and car you have to have, hand-outs start looking pretty good. And willingness to sacrifice anything goes down the dumper.
Try stopping the entitlements in red state urban areas and watch them burn from rioting. The Greeks are rioting over PAYCUTS, not ending of services. (I find this to be unreasonable, but there you go)

Okay; so noted. Actually, I’m fine with succession. Not sure how it will turn out, but at this point, any change is better than no change.
So what would happen if the union dissolved? California would continue to decline further, New York and other north eastern states would fail further, and the rest of the country would enjoy a new union without all those looking for a free lunch.
Actually, New York and the north east look great compared to the Rust Belt. The Rust Belt is a total economic liability. I know; I live there. The weather sucks (that matters economically), and all of our former economic might has been lost to China and Japan. There is no recovery for this area coming. The damage is too severe. You might as well just take the Old Confederacy and see what you can do. Let it not be said that I’m not objective.
Can we deport 20 million sure, give them 90 days to leave then make their presence a capital offense.
That seems a bit extreme. It will probably take a number of years to get the border under control.
Martel732,
Do a little research. “You do realize that if the power goes out in Arizona, most citizens die of dehydration right? They need those electrical water pumps. So they are pretty dependent upon the national power grid.” Actually, Arizona is a net producer of power for the power grid, not a consumer
There is such a growth market in Arizona for the construction of merchant plants to sell power to states that are handcuffed by environmentalists that they have nineteen new plants proposed for construction as we speak. http://ag.arizona.edu/AZWATER/awr/janfeb01/feature1.htm
Recently an Arizona Corporation Commissioner Gary Pierce authored a letter to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa threatening to cut the power to the City of Los Angeles if the city doesn’t rethink its boycott of Arizona businesses over this immigration bill. Since Los Angeles gets 25% of its power from the state; I’d advise him to listen. The California governor would also be advised to listen as well. There are currently over 4,300 convicted violent California felons being incarcerated in Arizona prisons. Just imagine the chaos if Arizona were to place those criminals on busses and release them to the City of Los Angeles just prior to pulling the plug. Now I’d pay money to see that in HD! We could call it “Liberals run scared!” “Watch as a bunch or egotistical, hubristic, ideologues get it literally snapped off in their butts by their own uncontrollable creations because they thought they could shove their ideas down the throats of another group of citizens.” We could put it on pay-per-view.
The US depends more on Arizona to hold up the power grid in the west than Arizona depends on the US power grid for electricity. In fact, electricity exports to a power starved US would probably be the Free State of Arizonian’s largest, most lucrative export. Expressing opinion is one thing, getting it correct is quite another.
Oh, okay. Didn’t know that. So then I guess New Mexico is the state that dies of dehydration if the power goes out. Well, I guess the electricity could still go out in Arizona, but seems unlikely. I guess Arizona is probably okay on its own. Have at it then, leave the union!
Come to think of it, break up might be great for the Rust Belt. It might put people back to work, because God knows we here couldn’t afford to purchase electricity from Arizona. We’d have to build and run our own plants. I notice you didn’t give me any flak about the Rust Belt because you know I’m right.
It’s funny you mention environmentalists. The Chinese and French don’t seem to let environmentalists hamper their energy production needs. Only in America.
Martell732,
“It’s funny you mention environmentalists. The Chinese and French don’t seem to let environmentalists hamper their energy production needs. Only in America.” Of course. In France they ignore them, in China they shoot them. Personally; I would be in favor of either solution. Only in America can enough guilt ridden people be convinced to contribute enough money to environmental groups that those groups can actually afford to purchase their own Senators and Congressmen through the campaign contribution process. Who then continue the flow of campaign contributions through the enactment of draconian pieces of environmental legislation. We’ve reached the point of idiocy when the EPA starts threatening to regulate CO2.
As for succession, I would expect it to happen fast, and in chunks. I could easily see a Confederation of Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Kansas Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee being created within the span of three to four months. I could also easily envision Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, and both Dakotas forming another. That’s 42% of ‘flyover’ country disappearing from progressive control almost overnight. I wonder how desperate the East & West Coast progressive establishments get then as more and more people ‘vote with their feet’ and move away from fiefdoms of redistribution and into free states of opportunity.
Well actually, France regulates CO2, but they don’t burn coal, so it is a lot easier for them. I would lump CO2 regulation in with abortion at this point as “not relevant compared to other problems at this time”.
I’m not sure how many net people would move to the central part of the country. You would get a lot of movement based on ideology, though.
The biggest problem I see with those regions would be sensitivity to fuel prices. The proposed regions don’t have that great of a GDP/land area ratio, so world oil increases would be completely soul-crushing.
However, if people want to go try uber-captialism, uber-free market, go for it. Just don’t complain when China owns everything in 20 years.
I didn’t see anyone claiming the Rust Belt, either. Damn Ohio sucks.
