Trita Parsi’s Pro Ayatollahs’ Campaign Has Caused Mass Exodus from NIAC

The membership of the National Iranian American Council is now at the all-time-low of only a few hundreds, as the Iranian-Americans increasingly see it as the voice of the Iranian regime and distance themselves from such a despised entity.

There is growing evidence that NIAC (National Iranian American Council) members are leaving the organization.  Membership exodus which had started in 2007 when NIAC’s lobbying activities for the Iranian regime were first reported by the investigative Iran analyst Hassan Dai, has now taken a sharp turn.  To curb the membership’s negative flux Trita Parsi filed a frivolous laws suit against Dai, blaming him for the membership drop.  However, documents discovered in this process further exposed Trita Parsi , and NIAC’s top echelon’s relations with Ahmadinejad and Khamenei’s men.

With NIAC’s recent relentless campaign against the MEK (a well-organized Iranian Opposition Group), and  NIAC’s  unconcealed motives for the campaign, many members are seriously concerned about their membership in NIAC; In particular, since NIAC’s campaign against the MEK has had a tangible role in paving the way and justifying the massacre of MEK members in Camp Ashraf, Iraq.

According to some of the NIAC defectors and those disillusioned with the Iranian regime’s lobby, some of the reasons expressed by these  individuals are:

-       NIAC’s sharp departure from its original promise of representing all Iranian-Americans on issues directly related to their lives in the US;

-       Trita Parsi’s illicit relations with the Iranian government making him Tehran’s functionary in Washington;

-       NIAC’s campaign against MEK which only benefits Tehran’s ayatollahs;

-       Pushing a political agenda, while all along NIAC’s claims has been that, it is non political and non partisan;

But the fact of the matter is that NIAC never represented Iranian-Americans. It never advocated the interests of or had a sizable membership of the Iranian-Americans.   While NIAC has claimed that it is the largest Iranian-American grassroots organization in the United States, Its membership, at its highest point, did not reach one tenth of one percent of the Iranian Americans in the US.  The following statistics and facts are from a recent quantitative and fact based analysis:

-       The same minutes shows that Alex Patico, NIAC co-founder and a board member felt that: "it would not be deceitful to mention NIAC as being comprised of 25,000+ members when dealing with the media and other inquiries."

-       In Dec. 2010 Trita Parsi claimed that NIAC has 4000 paid members and 43,000 active supporters. However, during his testimony in May 2011 and under oath Parsi confessed that 43,000 is really NIAC's mailing list. The real membership was only around 1,000 members.

The membership of NIAC is now at the all-time-low of only a few hundreds, as the Iranian-Americans increasingly see it as the voice of the Iranian regime and distance themselves from such a despised entity. Several of NIAC’s higher echelon have left the organization, or no longer participate in its functions, in an attempt to preserve their careers. Parents are wary of their youngsters interning with NIAC. Trita Parsi, no longer attends the gathering of Iranians without making sure it is a controlled friendly audience.  He is even refused service in Iranian restaurants.  So much for claiming to be the largest grass root Iranian American Organization!
