Democrats Don't Get the War on Terror

Democrats don't fully understand the importance of the War on Terror. They are not supporting the president and the country in one of the most conspicuous wars of our time.


         Here it is: the number one fact to know in thinking, talking, or writing about the pending battle with Saddam Hussein is that it is a part of the War on Terror. Republicans have a bad habit of allowing liberal Democrats to define the terms of any given political issue. This situation is too important. It's outrageous that the Democrats would use this threat to try to make cheap political hay. Iraq is not a distraction from the war- it is the next major battle in the War on Terror.
         Democrats are spinning the line that the Bush administration is forgetting about the War on Terror as it proceeds on a personal agenda to get Saddam to settle an old score, steal oil, or just plain kill Iraqi civilians. The Democrats' pursuit of political power is unending and takes precedence to everything - including the survival of our nation. Even in the most sensitive matters of national security they chose to make cheap political attacks that can't stand the test of reason or fact. It is France and Germany that are acting for their own shortsighted economic self-interests. The United States' role is much larger and purpose much nobler.
         It is very important that we remember where we are and how we got here. Although Bin Laden and other Islamic Extremists declared war on us years ago we did not recognize, accept, or engage in this war until it was brought home to us on 9/11. The devastation we all felt on that day may pale in comparison to what could be the next attack to hit us here at home. You've heard of biological and chemical weapons, right? WMD? Phase one of Smallpox inoculation has already started in the states. The weapons are out there and so are those that would use them. A lot of them are in Iraq hidden under Saddam's control. We need to get rid of them along with the dictator manufacturing and hiding them. Preferably BEFORE we are attacked.
         President Bush has been intellectually and morally clear and consistent on the War on Terror from the start. The Democrats have been waffling in this war, muddying the issue, creating doubt and confusion amongst Americans, and weakening the United States' position in international relations. The president's clarity of vision on this helped comfort and strengthen the nation in his first major address following 9/11. That speech defined this war and the struggle we face defending freedom for ourselves and the world. The words could not have been clearer and remembering them could go a long way in discarding the Democrat spin.
         "... We will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation in every region now has a decision to make: Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists. From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime. Our nation has been put on notice, we're not immune from attack. We will take defensive measures against terrorism to protect Americans... This is not, however, just America's fight. And what is at stake is not just America's freedom. This is the world's fight. This is civilization's fight. This is the fight of all who believe in progress and pluralism, tolerance and freedom." President GW Bush, 9-20-01

         Iraq is a nation that continues to harbor and support terrorism. It is a nation desperately trying to acquire and spread the proliferation of nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons of mass destruction. Saddam is one of the worst tyrannical dictators the world currently knows. He is not the only one but he must be dealt with now before it's too late. The administration has not forgotten about North Korea, Al Qaeda or even Iran. They will all be dealt with in time and the Democrats could help if they'd stop the ridiculous campaign to thwart the President in the battle with Saddam.

          The War on Terror is being fought every day by tens of thousands of individuals in this country and abroad and every day our enemies are working toward their next devastating attack on the free world. Liberal Democrats are everyday making excuses for Saddam and arguments against facing him. Asking again and again to give him another chance and more time. What they are really doing is undermining our nation's strength as we attempt to engage in the most potentially devastating of all wars.
         This is a global struggle and we need the support of the free world behind us. And we have it. There are currently 18 European nations who support our position and 3 who do not: France, Germany, and Belgium. The letter of support from the 10 eastern European nations ("New Europe") couldn't speak louder.
         "Our countries understand the dangers posed by tyranny and the special responsibility of democracies to defend our shared values. The trans-Atlantic community, of which we are a part, must stand together to face the threat posed by the nexus of terrorism and dictators with weapons of mass destruction."          These countries understand well the reasons for regime change in Iraq. They are the people that have most recently been ruled by dictators and denied basic human rights. It is they who have most recently learned the meaning of freedom in their own lives and they have not yet forgotten the lessons of the past.
         "We're not deceived by their pretenses to piety. We have seen their kind before. They're the heirs of all the murderous ideologies of the 20th century. By sacrificing human life to serve their radical visions, by abandoning every value except the will to power, they follow in the path of fascism, Nazism and totalitarianism. And they will follow that path all the way to where it ends in history's unmarked grave of discarded lies...." President GW Bush, 9-20-01
         The political enemies of the President are now dangerously close to co-mingling with the enemies of freedom and of the United States of America. The President stressed the importance of America defining the times and not being defined by those that would terrorize us. It is now also important that those of us who support the administration's position not allow the Democrats to define the War on Terror for their own political gain, at the expense of our nation and the freedom we seek to protect. Democrats also seem willing to "abandon every value except the will to power".
         Some speak of an age of terror. I know there are struggles ahead and dangers to face. But this country will define our times, not be defined by them... As long as the United States of America is determined and strong, this will not be an age of terror. This will be an age of liberty here and across the world... President GW Bush, 9-20-01
         The coming battle in Iraq will be one similar to that in Afghanistan. We will free a nation's people from the tyrannical rule of a dictatorial regime. We will be one step closer to winning the War on Terror. Al Qaeda and the other terrorist organizations will have one less ally. We will be stronger and our enemies weaker. The world will be safer and freedom will be more secure. The battle will be won and war will continue. Liberty will flourish in Iraq and the next battle will loom on the horizon. Will the Democrats celebrate our victory and support the nation's interest in the next battle or again mingle with our enemies?
