If, as President Bush said last year, it is to be “liberty’s century,” the members of the Fourteenth Generation are the appointed guardians. A new generation of Americans is about to take center stage, and it will be revolutionary — in a conservative kind of way. Boy Scouts are the sons of Democrats and Republicans, Jews and Christians, rich and poor, inner city and rural, African-American and Hispanic. On June 1, the Portland (Maine) School Committee voted six to three to ban the Boy Scouts from distributing promotional literature to students. Last month, the ACLU sent a letter to the Boy Scouts national headquarters threatening to sue any public school that sponsors a Boy Scout troop. When I became an American two decades ago at 9:33 in the evening, at Tacoma General Hospital, I was a survivor of abortion. Marxism may be dead; but it’s alive and kicking at America’s universities. We know the second Dred Scott decision, the one feared like death by Abraham Lincoln, as Roe v. Wade. The Washington governor election is ridiculously close, madly confusing, and increasingly unstable. In August of this year, former lead singer of the Misfits Michale Graves enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Parents should never underestimate the power of talk radio in the lives of their children. It just might save the country. Liberals have not only failed to reproduce, they are quite literally killing themselves. The ACLU's latest maneuvers makes clear that it intends to force the end of all federal support for the Boy Scouts of America. To dismantle the principle of "one nation under God" is to prepare our nation for the most cruel and violent of despotisms. The latest group to join the ACLU in assaulting the Boy Scouts is the United States Department of Defense. If the nineteenth century was the century of slavery, and the twentieth the century of ideological totalitarianism, the twenty-first will be the century of freedom. I conclude from my observations that we have acquired in our modern political attitudes the sure groundings of what Alexis de Tocqueville would label democratic despotism. We would be fools indeed to forget the sufferings of Indians in the history of America, but we would cheer on the death of Western Civilization to cast shame on the heroic name of Christopher Columbus. MTV's programming to get young people to vote is a rejection of responsible republican government, and an embarrassing demonstration of exactly why many youngsters shouldn't be voting yet. |
