The only thing less efficient than government is…labor unions! Lord Acton warned that absolute power corrupts absolutely. As our government transforms, Lord Acton will be proven correct. When will Barack Obama give a speech on the 10th Amendment? Obama's proposed budget comes up short on its estimates for spending, revenues and deficits, and dwarfs the fiscal irresponsibility displayed by Bush. If President Obama is just reading the script, who is behind the curtain directing the performance? We know that President Obama promised change and we know that a crisis can provide an opportunity for change. The advantage of the Delphi/Alinsky technique is to preserve the illusion that there is community participation and agreement in the decision making process. Instead of leading with a pro-business agenda, President Obama left the creation of the stimulus legislation to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Be very afraid when the federal government wants to mandate fairness. The buying, selling, and trading of carbon credits will not remove one molecule of CO2 from the atmosphere. After all, paying taxes is "patriotic." The redistribution of wealth from one group to another is unAmerican. When was the last time you heard a politician tell a voter that a request is outside the scope and responsibility of the government? Would you loan someone a significant amount of money without some assurance of repayment? Nancy Pelosi promised more bipartisanship, the end of pork barrel spending, and an immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq if the Democrats were put back in charge. The results have been less than spectacular. As a candidate, Arnold Schwarzenegger promised to make government more efficient, but in reality the General Fund spending has increased 44% since he took over. It is unfair to burden future generations with unfunded obligations. Only the greediest would past this debt to their children and grandchildren. The Comptroller of the United States, David Walker, has concluded that at the current level of spending, the U.S. is headed toward bankruptcy. Rest assured that our Congressmen will not be driving the micro-cars they will require you to drive. Despite Al Gore’s contention that the CO2 in the atmosphere is approaching dangerous levels, scientists tell us that CO2 levels have been as high as 15 times the current level of about 380 parts per million (ppm) and levels of about 5 times the current level were common. As folks in the northern latitudes prepare for winter, global warming zealots are heading to the tropics to join in a gabfest about global warming. Just 8.8 feet long and slightly wider and taller than 5 feet, the Smart car is the prototypical micro-car envisioned by Congress.
