Mitt Romney was, in his business career, precisely one of these visionaries. He was part of the top echelon of managers who realized that the Reagan Revolution in policy necessitated a concomitant revolution in asset-allocation in business. [...] Ayn Rand made a couple of fair points, but failed to grasp the deep longing most people have to live a noble life. They do not wish to live just for themselves. [...] German Greens were the only major political party in Europe to officially denounce sanctions on Iran’s nuclear ambitions as "illegal." [...] Romney and Gingrich are both fatally afflicted with challenges that are simply too easy for the President to exploit. With most of the nation stuck in neutral, the Republicans had better come up with something compelling beyond "the rich help create jobs" — or they are doomed. [...] For Republicans to choose Gingrich . . . would be a gamble, with everything from the Supreme Court to Obamacare to our nation’s alliances riding on the outcome. [...] What do establishment Republicans and liberal Democrats have in common? They’ve long labored under a shared misconception: conservative candidates are unelectable. [...] Santorum and Bachmann will eventually back Gingrich, and he will seal up the nomination quickly as conservatives flock to him. [...] So if you complain about a do-nothing Congress, I ask, what is it exactly that you want them to "do," whom do you think they'll "do" it to, and what do you think will be done to you? [...] “Electability” turns out to have nothing to do with values, ideology, record of performance, credibility, fidelity, or dedication: nothing to do, that is, with actual ability to fill high office. [...] Earlier this month Boeing announced that, due to costs, it would shut down its unionized plant in Kansas City. [...] Explaining the behavior of men and women featured on the Jerry Springer show. [...] I come from Generation X, and we are in the same boat financially as the Occupiers, if not worse off since we now have families and mortgages. But the answer is not more big government. The naive young Occupiers should not indebt future generations as was done to our generations. [...] If there is something troubling — or at least politically exploitable — in Romney’s returns, ’twere best it be known quickly. [...] The Washington Post is back to: Liberals = Smart and Conservatives = Dumb. Conservative Christians are "poor, educated and easily led." [...] 37% have a negative reaction when they hear the word "capitalism." Stop using it. [...] In theory, it may beat commonly praised alternatives. But to what extent can we rely on it in practice? [...] Andrew Sullivan calls Obama's critics "dumb." But perhaps he is the dumb one for comparing homosexuality to race. [...] Conservatives frequently complain that our presidential candidates are chosen by the media for us but give little thought to how this is actually possible. It is, and has been for decades, the modus operandi of the media to work hard to predispose the attitudes of voters toward their candidate by planting the seeds of doubt [...] Take note of how many children today are supported by government. Since government pays for their pre-natal care, birth, medical insurance, food, etc., why wouldn't government be considered their mother? [...] People think we can change human nature. We saw this with the recent revolutions in the Middle East, as well as the various protests against real or imagined ogres in Western financial sectors. But can we? [...] Those that practice the politics of prejudice are serving their own phantom but not the common good. [...] The candidates should have used the debates to educate the public about real issues like what Obamcare is all about. Instead the debates were like cat fights. [...] Not a single respondent on my mailing list looked favorably upon any presidential candidate who engaged in personal attack campaigning. [...] The left ignores reality and uses misleading terminology to fool people into buying into their misguided way of thinking. The ACLU does not mean Anti-Christian League of the Ungodly because American Civil Liberties Union sounds much nicer. [...] |
