Obama's quandary is that he is a liberal Democrat who opposes most military engagements. But unlike Vietnam, the war appears to be winnable. If the United States reneges on its promise to protect 3,500 Iranian exiles in Iraq, why should the State of Israel trust that the United States will fulfill promises to protect the Jewish State? Al Franken turned against Bush and the Iraq War only after it became politically correct to do so. Either intentionally or unintentionally, United States news media outlets are ignoring the violence perpetrated by Muslims against Christians in Iraq. The controversy over President Barack Obama's nominee for a top intelligence position came to an end today when Charles Freeman removed his name from consideration. If you want to know the truth about Iraq, you need to hear from the people who actually fought the war there. A review of Steven K. O'Hern's The Intelligence Wars: Lessons from Baghdad. In his new book Unintended Consequences, Peter Galbraith argues that the Iraq experiment, at least relative to Bush's stated goals, is doomed to fail. Vets for Freedom (VFF) revisit former battle stations in Iraq . . . and find victory is at hand. Not good news for the defeatists and news media. Barack Obama would be well-served in rejecting Joe Biden's risky scheme for dismembering Iraq into three parts. "No More Vietnams" can mean we will not try again. It should mean we will not fail again. The reconciliation occurring in Iraq is largely cosmetic and forced by U.S. pressure. Now that we have turned the corner and brought most of the Sunnis and many of the Shiites over to our side we need to be very careful not to give our new friends and allies the impression that we are abandoning them. No surprise, here's another example of left-wing liberal media presenting only a selected part of the facts in order to mislead readers, when all of the facts are a matter of public record. To tell a people that the occupation of their country will continue only if they refrain from fighting for their freedom is utter lunacy. The moving story of one of one of America's true heroes, a veteran who was struck by an IED while serving in Iraq. Featured on the Montel Williams Show with me this Tuesday. The liberal left's antipathy for the American military was on full display at Forest Lake High School after it banned Vets for Freedom following complaints from anti-war activists. Although a U.S. withdrawal and soft partition is not a perfect solution, Iraq is in some sense already partitioned, with forces primarily loyal to ethno-sectarian groups providing security. The obliviousness of the American people, politicians, and press is especially acute when it comes to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Deciding whether or not to support McCain is a deeply difficult decision for conservatives to make, reflected in their division down the middle over whether to support the Republican Party this election or not. At some point, conservatives have to take a gamble and try and predict the future – will they regret their decision [...] Whatever reservations conservatives have about John McCain, it is impossible to imagine McCain willing to leave Iraq in the hands of the United Nations, Iran and Syria. When you refuse to acknowledge the enemy for fear of offending people, by definition, you cannot know whether you are triumphing over the enemy. Some of us wish that rational argument, cogent evidence, and humane sentiment would persuade a preponderance of the public to demand an end to the war. History suggests, however, that only personal grief and economic pain will induce the American public to act against their perfidious leaders. When asked to tell us what we actually need to do, rather than tell us what we all need to believe, ideologues on the Far Left and Far Right are uncharacteristically silent. Those who do not learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them. The Iraqi and Afghani constitutions contain the foundations for these states to transition smoothly to Fundamentalist Islamic States, once the American military presence has ended. |
