Does the left believe its own rhetoric?

Does the left believe its own rhetoric?

Take the environment:

Ronald Reagan’s son, Michael Reagan notes that

Most of us, when we think “windmills” call up quaint, colorful wooden structures in the Netherlands. But today’s power–generating wind turbines can equal the height of a 30–story building. The end of the blades reach speeds approaching 170 miles per hour, creating a wind whirlpool that sucks birds into the blade’s unforgiving maw. That’s why many wildlife fanciers call them “bird blenders.

But Obama has called for opening our public lands for the building of renewable energy installations, including windmills. Apart from being a bird’s worst nightmare, there would have to be miles and miles of transmission lines from this wilderness to populated areas.

Obama said of his nomination:

this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal…

He certainly seems serious about climate change. He is planning to go to a Climate Change summit in Paris. According to the proposed draft text of the climate treaty, a tribunal should be created to take up issues such as “climate justice,” … (justice in this context means that it is not fair that we produce so much carbon dioxide, thus causing environmental problems for third world countries, so we should pay compensation to them).

OK, so the birds have to be sacrificed to save the planet. But then:

Take the immigration issue:

The new Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, said this about the people who bombed the Boston Marathon killing three people and wounding more than 260.

There is no question that this happened because of someone who feels completely excluded, someone who feels completely at war with innocence, at war with society.

However, the surviving bomber attributed their actions to “defending Islam,” and not to a feeling of exclusion.  And now Justin Trudeau has promised to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees in Canada by 2016. Will any of them be ISIS members? Almost certainly so. If we look at the U.S., we find that White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters that the United States was prepared to take in at least 10,000 Syrian refugees and added that all refugees would be “extensively screened.”

This is not true. FBI director James Comey said during a House Committee on Homeland Security hearing that the federal government does not have the ability to conduct thorough background checks on all of the 10,000 Syrian refugees that the Obama administration says will be allowed to come to the U.S.

“We can only query against that which we have collected,” Comey said in response to questioning from Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson .

And so if someone has never made a ripple in the pond in Syria in a way that would get their identity or their interest reflected in our database, we can query our database until the cows come home, but there will be nothing show up because we have no record of them.

So again, given what just happened in Paris (2015), and earlier (2007) in England, and the bombing of commuters in Madrid, Spain in (2004), and the horror in Mumbai, India (2008), how can the left simply bring in these people if vetting cannot be done?

There is another problem – even if all the immigrants are vetted, their kids sometimes turn to terrorism. One interesting example was Rezwan Ferdaus, whose parents had emigrated from Bangladesh to the suburbs of Boston. He learned physics in college – apparently very well, because when he got radicalized he purchased 3 drones that he intended to load with C-4 explosives and fly into the U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon. “The UAVs were FerdausDrone2actually remote-controlled aircraft, perfect model replicas of the navy’s F-4 Phantom fighters, built to precise one-tenth scale, and available on the internet…” They could fly at 160 miles per hour, and could navigate via GPS. They flew so low they were nearly impossible to detect on radar.
Ferdaus had the drones shipped to a storage facility in Framingham, where he began assembling them.
Ferdaus was talented, “he had constructed a high-torque robotic servo actuator for his self-guided UAVs, a device that would simultaneously pull the pins on the sixteen hand grenades that he would place on board each ..aircraft. (He was also going to use C-4).
Ferdaus had to find a place to launch the planes from , so he then traveled to D.C., and decided on East Potomac Park.  This park was nearly equidistant between the two targets.
So what saved the Capitol and the Pentagon? A Muslim. Ferdaus had contacted a man in his Mosque for help, and that man went to the FBI.
However, the story is still chilling. The primary responsibility of Obama is to the safety of the citizens here, and bringing in Muslims, even if the majority do not indoctrinate themselves from terror websites as Ferdaus did, raises a big question mark.

Then there is the “racism/sexism/classism” triad – do leftists really believe in that either?

Roger Kimball says this in the Wall Street Journal:

Even as I write, Amherst College is exploding with nonnegotiable demands from a student group that the president apologize for (among others things) Amherst’s “institutional legacy of white supremacy, colonialism, anti-black racism, anti-Latin racism, anti-Native American racism, anti-Native/ indigenous racism, anti-Asian racism, anti-Middle Eastern racism, heterosexism, cis-sexism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, ableism, mental health stigma, and classism.” Really, you can’t make it up.

In Dartmouth college (New Hampshire) in 2014, student activists demanded this:

hiring more racial minorities as faculty, implementing more gender-neutral housing and bathroom options, banning the term “illegal immigrant,” evaluating the Greek system’s role in sexual assault, and harsher punishments for those who commit sexual violence.

In Hunter college (New York City) Palestinian activists, with a sprinkling of leftists, wrote:

We demand:

An End to the Privatization of Education!

-Tuition-Free Education
-Cancellation of all student debt!
-15$ minimum wage for campus workers!

Transparency in Administration!

-Gender Resource Centers and perpretrators of sexual assault expelled
-Demand CUNY divests from Israel, companies that maintain the Zionist occupation, private prisons, and prison labor.

They explained:

The Zionist administration [of the college] invests in Israeli companies, companies that support the Israeli occupation, hosts birthright programs and study abroad programs in occupied Palestine, and reproduces settler-colonial ideology throughout CUNY through Zionist content of education. While CUNY aims to produce the next generation of professional Zionists, SJP [NYC Students for Justice in Palestine] aims to change the university to fight for all peoples [sic] liberation.

This Zionist stuff sounds like antisemitism. Antisemitism sounds like racism. But they are against racism. I’m confused.

I doubt the leftists really believe in all their demands. More likely, the demands are ways of getting allies from various factions. For instance, “Tuition Free Education” appeals to any student who is accumulating debt, and clamoring against racism will help get minority support, and so forth.

So If the left is not really for the environment, and if their compassion is for the victimizers rather than for the victims, if they are anti-racist with a glaring exception, then what do they stand for except hypocrisy?
