MY OWN RESPONSE TO THIS PREDICTABLE DISPLAY OF IGNORANCE BY THE HOSTS OF ‘THE VIEW’

And here’s what I would tell the hosts of “The View” if I were invited on the show, to comment on their remarks:

Whoopi, Whoopi! Thanks for confirming what we all suspected about you:

No matter whether you know what you’re talking about or not, you always shoot from the hip (and that’s one large hip!)

As for the hippest leftist hipster of all – and Obama apologist & supporter – Rosie O”Donnell …

That really is one big butt which you yourself are brandishing, as a weapon of mass viewing-audience destruction!

IS THAT ALL WE’RE GOING TO READ … INSULT JOKES ONLY WORTHY OF AN INSULT COMIC LIKE WHOOPI GOLDBERG?

Enough with the bad humor, folks.

Instead, let’s get on to a serious discussion of what’s so troubling about this kind of entertainment talk-show format, featuring Hollywood celebrity “know-nothings”:

Most important, let’s time travel all the way back to September 2002.

In a revealing essay (“The Left Has Lost Its Way and Lost Its Voice”) in Britain’s “Times” newspaper, Camille Paglia uncorked this insightful quote: “One problem is that too many leftist periodicals are run by callow cliques whose vaunted populism is a mask for snobbery.”

But in my opinion Ms. Paglia’s apt critique would apply to the entire American left these days, especially in academia and Hollywood.

Indeed, from a socio-cultural (sociological) perspective, there is a latent role for contemporary leftism among today’s media and academic elite:

It is to serve as an identifying badge of sophistication and superiority, meant to distinguish these haughty souls from those whom they view as their inferiors — namely the entire rest of the population, including the poor, the working poor, and especially the suburban middle class.

For example, a normal, human response to the events of 9/11 would have been one of anger, hurt, anguish and a desire to “hit back”. But the leftist media and academic elite immediately responded almost as one with a stultifying assortment of attempts to “understand” the Islamofascist enemy, to show “tolerance” toward fellow Islamic Americans (even if they were clandestine Al-qaeda supporters or sympathizers), to take a “balanced” view of history by dragging up every alleged American historical act of imperialist, capitalistic or racist exploitation that might justify the outrages of 9/11, and to counsel against “irrational” national acts of revenge.

Now of course, these reality-challenged public & journalistic outbursts were partly the result of these misguided souls having immersed themselves, for so long, in the brain-damaging post-modernist zeitgeist of moral equivalence, cultural relativism and reflex anti-Americanism.

However, it’s important to note that this self-hating post-modernist sensibility only provided the fabric into which something more fundamental could be sewn: a compulsive need by these haughty elites to symbolically establish their status superiority over the rest of us — to symbolically demonstrate how much more “understanding,” “tolerant” and “reasonable” these lofty souls were as compared to the rest of us flawed and inferior humans.

In other words, if there is one thing that the contemporary leftist sensibility — with all its progressive and post-modernist baggage — is meant to do, it’s to symbolically show just how much BETTER and MORALLY SUPERIOR are its adherents THAN YOU AND ME.

Hence, the dismissive, know-it-all stance – of the hosts of “The View” towards their imagined opponents (such as Charles Krauthammer), and a body language that seems to symbolize that these righteous prophets of left-wing goodness have a direct line to God, even if they personally don’t believe in a supreme deity (which is their usual modus operandi).

It doesn’t matter whether it’s “CHARLES WHATSHISHAMMER” or Fox News…

These fools are polluting the airwaves with ignorant musings which a growing population of “entertainment junkies” take as the gospel of lofty thought.

No wonder the liberal-minded Democrat political party can customarily count on a built-in core of ordinary voters – especially younger ones.

Fortunately, for the rest of us (and America in general), most current polls point to a Republican sweep of the Senate and House of Representatives in the fast-approaching November election.

And we can thank Barack Obama (as well Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi) for this blessing.

Nuff said, from these ignorant leftist media fools, I would think.
