The intelligence information report (IAR) from August 2012 describes active support given al-Qaeda in Iraq, the Muslim Brotherhood and other groups “driving the insurgency” against the Assad regime in Syria. Al-Qaeda in Iraq (or “AQI”) would become ISIS.
