VIDEO: IC Editor Rachel Alexander discusses some hilarious aspects of fake news

Clickbait sites are stealing legitimate journalists’ articles, translating them into another language, tweaking a few words, then translating them back – with hilarious results. One journalist discovered an article she had written about Milo Yiannoupoulos hosting free speech week at Berkeley was tweaked in some very amusing ways – and received over 7,000 up votes on the Trump subreddit.

Here’s some of what she found: “Cost-free 7 Days” doesn’t quite have the same ring as “Free Speech Week.” The “Free Speech Movement” became the “Cost-free Speech Motion.” A full sentence from the ripped-pff article: “Milo Inc.’s initial prevent? Berkeley, where he’ll organize ‘Cost-free Speech 7 days’ and give out the Mario Savio Award for Cost-free Speech.” In another story on the site, Attorney General Jeff Sessions became “Attorney Basic Periods” and later “Jeff Periods.” And in another, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway is called the “White Dwelling counselor.” “Black Lives Matter” became “Black Lives Subject activists.” “Vanity Fair” became “Vanity Truthful.”
