COVID-19 Thoughts Part 115: American Public Media, More to the Left than ever

It’s not that conservatives hate higher culture regarding our opposition to American Public Media, its rather our forced support of it via the Corporation of Public Broadcasting or CPB (i.e., using our tax dollars); coupled with its attack on Conservatives and its die-hard support of progressive leftist causes.  PBS can still hide behind Sesame Street in spite of the fact that first run episodes of the long running series are now seen on WarnerMedia’s Streaming service HBO Max (PBS airs them in second run almost a year later).  Sesame Street has been the sacred cow of the progressives at large, while Conservatives more so have begun to social distance from it as the show embraces a progressive zeitgeist that is conflicting the Conservative and Christian worldviews more so in recent years.  Hey I remember Kelsey Grammer (who is a known conservative in Hollywood) being interviewed on his favorite Sesame Street moments during its 35 season and anniversary.  Then there was Johnny Trash, oops I mean Cash and his famous appearance preforming Nasty Dan for Oscar the Grouch.  Actually, it was the first of two appearances on the show.

The best examples of conservatives being attacked by the left via the pseudo-government funded public media in America is found in its news programing.  NPR which celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year was given a very nice package by Faith Salie (produced by Jay Kernis who worked at NPR during its infancy) on the CBS News program Sunday Morning which is currently hosted by Jane Pauley (who is married to leftist cartoonist Garry Trudeau and is best known for the comic strip Doonesbury). Now we know that the left at large loves NPR and feels that its objective and fair.  Let us not forget that NPR has employed for so many years Nina Totenberg, who tried to Bork the nomination of Clarence Thomas and failed and before that successfully borked Douglas Ginsburg’s nomination.  A few years later Totenberg would become tight if not a best friend with another Ginsburg (no relation), by the name of Justice Joan Ruth Bader.  NPR sweep under the rug the allegations of Hunter Biden calling them a “pure distraction,” thus making sure that Donald Trump was defeated and Hunter’s father would become President #51.

Salie by the way is a regular on the weekly NPR news quiz program Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!  Salie wrote a piece on the feminist website Jezebel.com attacking Bill O’Reilly who was on his way of being ran out of Fox News for his sexual misconduct.  Graham calls her bluff (Totenberg too) regarding the misconduct that former Bill Clinton got away with.  Let me just say, I think they only protected him only because they loved his wife more so.  As Tim Graham says; “If you’re a conservative, you see NPR as a sandbox for liberals, and object to your tax dollars going for that propaganda. If you’re a liberal, you love it dearly and fight any attempt to cut its federal funding.”

Same goes for PBS (and by the way as with NPR, CBS News Sunday Morning also gave them a nice packaged presentation which happened last year), and their news has proven to go further left than NPR (but stays within the Fact Reporting zone) so says the Media Bias Chart created and put out by Ad Fontes Media.  You can likely thank White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor for Ad Fontes putting PBS further left of NPR.  Alcindor was no different than CNN’s Jim Acosta playing the thorn on Trump’s side.  While Acosta had to fight to his access to Trump’s press conferences and then some, Trump would not dare do that to Alcindor (Black and Woman privilege you know).  Alcindor is also a contributor to MSNBC which is known for being a cable news outlet that appealed to progressive leftist Americans before CNN decided it pays to do the same thing (thanks Jeff Zuckerberg).

Alcindor is a progressive leftist through and through and has expressed her opinions through various MSNBC shows and personalities (and parent NBC News). As Acosta got awarded by CNN with a weekend gig and a chief domestic correspondent job, so has Alcindor.  PBS member station WETA in Washington DC which produces the daily version of the PBS Newshour, has awarded Alcindor the moderator/host position on the long running public affairs/news panel discussion program Washington Week (since 1967) which is eight years older than the PBS Newshour, which started off in late 1975 as The Robert MacNeil Report which evolved into The MacNeil/Lehrer Report under a year later when Jim Lehrer became a permanent co-anchor.

MacNeil/Lehrer Report evolved into The MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour in 1983, becoming The News Hour with Jim Lehrer after MacNeil retired in 1995 and then the current PBS Newshour when Lehrer retired in 2009.  Does the PBS NewsHour editorial guidelines that MacNeil/Lehrer claimed to have created and followed mean anything anymore…with Alcindor? I guess not.  So, these leftist dogs and cats continue to defecate on our shoes and claim its rain.  One thing that is not mentioned in the NPR piece that CBS News did is that “community service grants” from the CPB actually help pay for clearance of NPR programing.  Let us put PBS and NPR on notice and let them know, that when they claim rain…they are just full of themselves.

Time to get off the dole, and become self-sustaining as the likes in Christian media K-Love/Air1, Way FM, FLR, BBN, Moody, Bott, American Family, and TBN are…Now if they have gotten CPB grants the left would turning cart wheels, and I would join them in principle.  Heck even left-wing news commentary program Democracy Now! (seen and heard on both TV and radio and hosted by Amy Goodman) does not get funding from the government and strictly forbids it.
